Actor Kim Hye Jun honestly said she would find both sides burdensome if the love line in My Bias, My Boss were real.
On the afternoon of the 28th, tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama My Bias, My Boss held an online production press conference via live streaming. Director Park Ji-hyun and actors Kang Hoon, Kim Hye Jun and Cha Woomin attended the press conference and talked.
Based on the webtoon Our Brother Is an Idol, My Bias, My Boss is an office coming‑of‑age romance about new employee Nam Da-reum, who became "My Bias' employee" while trying to meet her bias.
Asked whether she has actual fan experiences, Kim Hye Jun, who plays Nam Da-reum, a new employee who joined the company of her bias E-Chan (played by Cha Woomin), said, "Rather than a specific person, I also liked K-pop idols who were active in my era when I was in middle and high school. So at lunch we'd put on music videos with the other kids and sing. I remember dancing along and all those memories came back, so I could fully empathize with Da-reum." She added, "I remembered a lot from that time. I pulled out those experiences and reflected on the feelings, which helped me a lot."
When asked who she would choose between company CEO Kang Ha‑gi (played by Kang Hoon) and her favorite idol E‑Chan if she were really Kim Hye Jun, Kim Hye Jun drew a line, saying, "I would find both burdensome. I don't think I could overcome the pressure of someone being a CEO or a top idol. I would meet a fellow employee." Kang Hoon joked, "A top actor like Kim Hye Jun could meet a top entertainer, couldn't she?" but Kim Hye Jun shook her head and made people laugh, saying, "(Both) would be burdensome. It would be uncomfortable."
When asked how he would react if he had the chance to become the "My Bias' employee," Kang Hoon agreed, saying, "I think I'd prefer to remain a fan. Watching from afar is probably the most ideal. When you meet them they might be more perfect and cool, but you could also be disappointed, so I'd rather keep them in a fantasy."
Cha Woomin said, "I would remain a fan too. I imagined it, and no matter what the situation, if my bias were in front of me I don't think I could work properly. I'd be too nervous," and Kang Hoon showed a timid side, saying, "Honestly, I don't think I could even speak to them."
Director Park Ji-hyun added, "I was a pretty intense fan in high school. I was from the provinces and had to get into a university in Seoul, so like Da-reum I used 'get into Seoul' as motivation and pushed myself to come to Seoul and enter a broadcasting station," and she shared, "I think it's better not to meet them. I fully understand that fandom as fandom is enough."
Meanwhile, My Bias, My Boss will premiere on Aug. 3 at 8:45 p.m.
