Broadcaster Cho Hye-lyeon shared an update on her daughter, who dropped out of a prestigious high school.
On the 27th, a video titled "The heart that could not be filled with alcohol and cigarettes, the true happiness Cho Hye-lyeon found" was uploaded to Lee Sung-mi's Motganda channel.
That day Lee Sung-mi asked, "Many people are curious: when someone is doing well professionally, how are their children doing? How are their relationships with their children going?" Cho Hye-lyeon mentioned her daughter's withdrawal, saying, "Yuna was actually attending a prestigious high school in Korea, but one day she poured her heart out to me that struggling in this competition was too hard and she wondered whether living like this was truly happy."
She said, "I told her, 'Then you decide for real,' and honestly I was also very, very tired. So she, however it worked out, went to an international school and went to the United States. But then COVID broke out. So after studying for one year she was kicked out. She came back to Korea and suddenly she had changed. 'Mom, I'll just earn my own money,' she said. When I asked why, she said that during her year in the United States she saw that American kids, after graduating high school, must pay their own college tuition. And they pay it back over 30 years. That's what she learned," she said.
She continued, "Seeing her become independent from her parents, she started working part-time at a convenience store as soon as she returned. She worked carrying beer cases and doing other hard jobs and struggled a lot. Then after living together for a while, one day she said she wouldn't go to the United States. In any case, living in the U.S. must have brought certain hardships. I'm grateful. It costs a lot of money. 'She thought well,' and she's living in Korea," she said frankly, eliciting laughter.
In particular, Cho Hye-lyeon said, "She took a transfer exam and got into Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. She entered the department of Chinese trade and diplomacy and became independent while studying there. She moved away from us. Struggling, living alone near the school, she tutored and earned her own money. She lives somewhat apart from her mother and father. So I'm now watching over her and always praying," expressing pride toward her daughter, who lives independently.
Meanwhile, Cho Hye-lyeon married in 1998 and had a daughter, Yuna, and a son, Uju, but divorced in 2012. She later remarried her current husband in 2014 and is living with him.
