Actor Yoon Kyung-ho expressed his feelings about being a leading candidate for this year's Pinggyego grand prize.
On the 27th, at a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, an end-of-series interview with Yoon Kyung-ho of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama Manager Kim was held.
Yoon Kyung-ho played the role of Park Jin-chul in the drama, revealing a new charm that added weighty action to his wit. While not losing his cheerfulness, he showed deftness in serious action scenes and captivated viewers.
That day Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I'm grateful that people see it that way. I'm glad they see me positively. In the past being talkative was a flaw and a stigma. When I talked a lot people warned me to be careful with my words because I might make mistakes by saying things I didn't need to say — my mother and my wife told me that often. I was surprised that those words brought people joy and became a characteristic of mine, and I was surprised that my complex could become a characteristic."
He continued, "I'm actually grateful just to be mentioned for the grand prize. Last year at the Pinggyego awards, seeing Jee Seokjin hyung win the grand prize, he left a remark that it took a long time to get here. For someone it's a meaningful and touching award, and if someone else receives it this year, I don't have the ambition for it because I would feel apologetic to those people."
So is there a moment he feels his popularity? Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I reset myself every morning. Yesterday's glory is only until yesterday; with one action I don't know where I'll go again — it's like stocks. Thinking that because yesterday was good today will be good makes you complacent. I'm always reflecting on my attitude."
Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I think the joy given today is today's joy. Recently I threw the ceremonial first pitch, and compared to when I threw one three years ago I heard much more cheering; when I heard big cheers from the team I like it really stayed with me. Everyone cheered and I was as happy as in a few moments of my life."
At the interview scene Yoon Kyung-ho actually attracted attention by wearing luxury shoes. Asked if there was a tangible change, he smiled and said, "These shoes were a gift; I was told not to take photos today, but I wanted to wear nice clothes. I've been so busy I haven't had time to buy clothes, so I bought something near my house and wore it. I worried I might look too plainly dressed when I came out, so I balanced it with a cherished pair of shoes. Thank you for noticing."
Is he actually enjoying a wealthy life? Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I even mentioned it on the broadcast that my fortune leaks in my saju. I once tried to invest in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix for financial management, but it wasn't like that. I thought there are good days and bad days, but why does my fortune leak?" he pondered, then complained, "There truly is a family motto at home of "thrift and frugality." I think I've spent a lot on food. I'm trying to cut back on eating, and I'm considering talking to the company to receive my pay as a monthly salary because it doesn't feel real. They say I don't save money to buy things; I take on debt and pay it off to make money according to my saju."
