Actor Tom Cruise's daughter Suri Cruise has legally changed her name, dropping her father's surname, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's children have likewise been distancing themselves from their father by not using the surname 'Pitt'.
On the 27th (local time), U.S. entertainment outlet Page Six reported that Suri Cruise (20) legally changed her surname from 'Cruise' to 'Noelle'.
In October last year, while enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University in Pennsylvania, Suri registered to vote using the name Suri Noelle. Because Pennsylvania requires the use of a legal name for voter registration, it was confirmed that she had already completed the name change procedure.
Also, there is no record of a name change in Allegheny County, raising the possibility that she completed the legal procedure in New York before entering college.
It is not known exactly when Suri changed her name, but she has been using the name Suri Noelle for several years. At LaGuardia High School's graduation program in New York in June last year, she drew attention by using the name Suri Noelle instead of Suri Cruise.
At the time, a representative said "choosing 'Noelle,' Katie Holmes's middle name, was a way of showing respect for her mother" and explained that "she wanted to create her own identity in a new environment and make a fresh start."
Suri was born in 2006 to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes; the two married the same year but divorced in 2012. Since then, Suri has been living with her mother, Katie Holmes.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's children have followed a similar path. Youngest daughter Vivienne filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court in July last year to change her legal name from Vivienne Marcheline Jolie-Pitt to Vivienne Marcheline Jolie. The reason for the name change was listed only as "personal reasons," and 'Marcheline' is the name of Angelina Jolie's mother, who died in 2007.
The eldest, Maddox, already uses 'Maddox Jolie' through legal procedures, and when he worked as an assistant director on a film involving Angelina Jolie, he was credited under that name.
Shiloh also applied to the court to change her surname as soon as she turned 18 and had it approved, and Zahara completed the name change procedure to 'Zahara Jolie.'
Youngest son Knox has not legally changed his name yet, but he was reported to have used the name 'Knox Jolie' at his high school graduation in June. Vivienne also attracted attention by using the name 'Vivienne Jolie' on the production credits for the Broadway musical Outsider before legally changing her name.
