Actor Yoon Kyung-ho said he received a call from Park Kyung-rim ahead of Manager Kim's 13% silent practice pledge.
On the 27th, at a cafe in Cheongdam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a closing interview with Yoon Kyung-ho, an actor in SBS's Friday-Saturday drama Manager Kim, was held.
Yoon Kyung-ho played the role of Park Jin-chul in the drama, revealing a new charm that added weighty action atop wit. He captivated viewers by showing skillful performance in serious action while maintaining his cheerfulness.
Manager Kim started with a 9.5% rating for episode 1 and in just two episodes far exceeded the 13% rating pledge, recording 15.7%. It then surpassed 21.6% by episode 4, breaking the 20% barrier, and continued to exceed 20% ratings for seven consecutive episodes through the final episode, episode 10, concluding with a nationwide rating of 23.0%. With some expecting ratings to top 25% in the final episode, Yoon Kyung-ho said, "In another sense, when we passed 13% we fulfilled the pledge. It's something I am very grateful for. I was surprised when everyone else was happy. When ratings rose, we had to fulfill the pledge after only two episodes, so I had a lot on my mind preparing for the silent practice."
He added, "Afterwards I felt a lot; I was nervous thinking, if it goes over 25% what will we do. I wasn't not expecting how far it could go, but how would we handle this. How should we accept this happiness? It felt like a miracle."
What kind of 고민 did he have to carry out the silent practice at the time? Yoon Kyung-ho expressed his doubts, "This is serious. I have to hold back my words, but at this moment when everyone is joyful, our agency has to hold an emergency meeting. I checked whether there were other pledges. Was that the only one among them? Was that supposed to be done?"
Yoon Kyung-ho said, "Kyung-rim, who had hosted the production press conference, called me. When episode 1 scored 9.5%, I was on a trip with my family. She said, 'Hey, you should prepare for the silent practice; you agreed to do it.' The next day, when it exceeded 15%, it was decided. During the emergency meeting we discussed whether to take it seriously, to treat it cutely allowing for some charm, to really suffer through it, or to do it as a show. It got darker and darker."
He continued, "Someone suggested filming 13 hours to show sincerity. Then, 'Should we go on a temple stay?' How would we endure that difficult time together. It turned out this way, and I filled it with a very grateful heart. At times I burst into laughter, at times I wanted to take it seriously; being unable to speak made me depressed, and I used body language in the meantime. Amid that, moments of enjoyment came, I appeared on the radio, and although I couldn't hold back my words, I was very grateful for those moments."
Yoon Kyung-ho said, "I am grateful people showed interest, and I felt a lot during the fan signing event. People came to see me and were trembling as they tried to speak. In that short time, they couldn't bring themselves to talk to me and left anxious, and I felt loved and thrilled. Reading the letters made me cry," adding, "I understood the weak and anxious feelings well, and those writings made me think a lot. It was a time for me to become stronger. Now I want to carefully contain my words and use them effectively. I want to show that my talking has decreased."
In an earlier closing interview with Joo Sang-Wook, he confessed he talked more than Yoon Kyung-ho. When this was relayed to Yoon Kyung-ho, he said, "I watched the interview anyway. At the wrap party Sang-wook hyung said, 'You gave an interview? I talked about you.' I was grateful for the acknowledgment. It was the first time I really got to know hyung Joo Sang-Wook and he was so funny. His way of speaking is so entertaining that I want to learn from him."
Regarding Joo Sang-Wook, Yoon Kyung-ho said, "He is a master. He is a master when it comes to rhetoric. The moment he listens, he filters and pinpoints the core of the other person's words. His retorts are so charming — 'And then?' 'So?' — you listen. It's so entertaining. I ramble on and then he says one line," he expressed with envy.
