Actor Cha Woomin shared his thoughts on playing an idol.
On the afternoon of the 28th, tvN's new Monday-Tuesday drama My Bias, My Boss held an online production presentation that was live streamed. Director Park Ji-hyun and actors Kang Hoon, Kim Hye Jun and Cha Woomin attended the production presentation and spoke.
Based on the webtoon Our Brother Is an Idol, My Bias, My Boss is an office coming-of-age romance about a new employee, Nam Da-reum, who becomes "my bias's" employee while trying to meet his "bias".
In the story, Cha Woomin plays E-Chan, an actor who used to be a member of the five-member idol group D.N.X and is now the fashion director of the fashion platform Apello. He explained, "He was once an extremely popular idol group member who, due to a series of incidents, carries some pain. While pursuing a solo career he established the current company, and through an accidental meeting with Nam Da-reum he is a character who shows new growth."
When asked to rate E-Chan as an idol, actor and fashion director, he answered, "30, 30, 40." He explained, "If what started as a hobby and preference for clothes grew to the scale of founding a company, he probably put that level of sincerity and energy into it." On the other hand, when asked to score himself he bashfully answered, "Idol 0, fashion I don't know well so 10, as an actor I'll work to reach 90."
But because he had to portray an idol, he had to put a lot of effort into dance practice and more. To that, Cha Woomin said, "I started dance practice from the beginning of joining the project, but the choreography was filmed in the later part. Later, because it became ingrained in my body, it got confusing. It was changed midway, so while filming if one person got it wrong there were moments of 'Is this right?' and there was behind-the-scenes confusion," and sincerely told current idols, "I respect you," drawing laughter.
Meanwhile, My Bias, My Boss will premiere on Aug. 3 at 8:45 p.m.
