"The Affair Was Just The Beginning" Kim Ji-hun revealed why he chose the project.
On the morning of the 28th at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul, a production press conference was held for the Coupang Play series "The Affair Was Just The Beginning."
The Coupang Play series "The Affair Was Just The Beginning" is a runaway black comedy in which a popular influencer couple who have been selling the image of a happy family and a neighbor couple of doctors locked in a mudslinging divorce lawsuit become entangled in an unbearable secret that makes even an affair seem trivial, leading to a chain of escalating collisions. Events that make an affair seem trivial occur repeatedly before the two seemingly perfect neighbors, producing unpredictable twists. Each episode delivers surprising developments and twists the runaway story humorously to provide unimaginably entertaining fun.
Director Lee Chang-hee of "The Murderer Is Not Easy" and "Strangers from Hell" raised the work's completeness with sensuous visuals and stylish direction, a brisk pace, and delicate direction that builds characters' psyches, and First Man Studio, produced by Kim Ji-yeon and director Hwang Dong-hyuk, who sparked a global phenomenon with the mega hit Squid Game Season, is producing the series, raising expectations.
In the drama, Kim Hye-soo (Kyung-hee) and Kim Ji-hun (Jae-hong) play the influencer couple, and Cho Yeojeong (Soo-jung) and Kim Jae-cheol (Bo-seong) play the cold neighbor doctor couple in the divorce lawsuit. The four actors vividly portrayed characters harboring their own desires and secrets, completing tense relationships, and their overwhelming acting synergy promises powerful entertainment.
Kim Hye-soo said the reason she chose the project was, "The title first caught my eye. I watched it with the curiosity, 'If an affair isn't the problem, then what is?'" and added, "As the episodes progressed, it responded with content that surprised me. The story rushing toward an unexpected ending was intriguing, and I joined the cast with a spirit of challenge as an actor."
Kim Ji-hun said, "As the senior said, the script being so funny was a big reason. And personally, I was happy to be able to act with senior Kim Hye-soo, whom I have long admired."
Kim Hye-soo asked, "Have you admired me all this time?" and Kim Ji-hun answered, "Yes," smiling brightly.
Kim Ji-hun said, "I've seen her in many projects since I was young, and even when I was a kid there was a sense of 'a star.' As I grew and acted, I always felt her had a thousand faces when watching her performances. No matter the role, she looked great, so as an actor I wanted to be like her," adding, "It's difficult to hold the top position for a long time. I had that respect, and merely the fact that I could share a scene with her was a big reason for me. The reason I chose this project is 99% because of senior Kim Hye-soo," expressing his respect.
Meanwhile, "The Affair Was Just The Beginning" will be released for the first time on Coupang Play at 8 p.m. on the 31st.
