The group DAY6's Young K fired a successful opening salvo for his solo second full-length album activities, his first in about 2 years and 10 months.
Young K on the 27th abruptly released his second full-length album "YOUNGEST" and announced his full-fledged solo comeback with the title track "Shut The Door." Since his first full-length album Letters with notes released in Sept. 2023, this long-awaited album uses the English superlative suffix -est to fully convey the story most characteristic of Young K (legal name Kang Young-hyun). In particular, he participated directly in the lyrics and composition of all 15 tracks included, showcasing his further matured abilities as a singer-songwriter.
Public reaction to the new album has been hot. YOUNGEST rose to No. 1 on Hanteo chart's real-time album chart as of 7 p.m. on the day of release (the 27th), and the title track Shut The Door topped Bugs' real-time chart. Also, it climbed to No. 7 on the Melon Top 100 chart as of 12 a.m. on the 28th, and by 11 p.m. on the 27th all 15 tracks from the new release had entered the Melon Top 100 chart, proving solid streaming power.
The new song Shut The Door is a track that stands out for its honest lyrics written like a diary. It expresses the moment of comforting oneself that things will be all right while closing the door with a lively synth-pop rhythm and punchy snare sound. It sings various emotions experienced in life in everyday language, offering deep empathy and lingering resonance.
On the day of his comeback Young K hosted a live broadcast The YOUNGEST Night Show on DAY6's official YouTube channel and communicated directly with fans. Playing radio DJ Young D, he created a full program sharing an album unboxing, behind-the-scenes stories of each track and a variety of submissions. He conveyed his heartfelt thanks to My Day (the fandom name), who continue to support him, saying, "I hope this time today becomes the strength to move forward tomorrow."
A unique promotion planned for this comeback also attracted attention. Before the release he held three busking live performances around Seoul to pre-release included songs, and a theme truck recreating Young K's inner room from the music video is touring throughout Seoul, providing the public with a novel enjoyment.
Riding the momentum of a successful comeback, Young K will continue his global activities with a solo tour. He will open the solo tour Young K Solo Tour 'YOUNGEST' at Incheon Inspire Arena from Aug. 14 to 16, and will then visit major Asian cities including Bangkok, Taipei, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila and Kuala Lumpur to meet fans around the world.
