"Gyeongju trip" Kong Hyojin reunited with Lee Jung-eun after "When the camellia blooms".
On the morning of the 27th at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Seoul, a production briefing for the film "Gyeongju trip" was held. Attending were lead actors Lee Jung-eun, Kong Hyojin, Park So-dam, Lee Yeon and director Kim Mi-jo.
"Gyeongju trip" (written and directed by Kim Mi-jo, provided by Lotte Entertainment·Michigan Venture Capital Co., Ltd., distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Studio Hi-Five, co-produced by Euphoria ENT) depicts a family revenge drama of four mothers who, for the youngest daughter Gyeongju who did not return from a school trip, embark on a "killer" journey after eight years of waiting. It is director Kim Mi-jo's first commercial film, who was recognized for solid directing with her debut work "Seagull" at prestigious domestic and international film festivals, and it has drawn attention by being invited to the Hawaii International Film Festival and winning the audience award at the Florence Korean Film Festival even before release.
Lee Jung-eun played Ok-sil, a mother who dreamed of revenge for eight years after losing her daughter; Kong Hyojin passionately played the eldest daughter Jang-joo, who treasures her family; Park So-dam played Yeong-ju, the unemployed second daughter with a law degree; and Lee Yeon played Dong-ju, the third daughter and former wrestling athlete.
In particular, Lee Jung-eun and Kong Hyojin reunited as mother and daughter for the first time in seven years since the KBS2 drama "When the camellia blooms" (2019).
Kong Hyojin said she had been offered the role twice, "At first, the timing overlapped with the project I was doing, so even if the script was very fun I thought I couldn't do it. I also felt it would be rude to the production team to ask them to adjust the schedule," and added, "After my younger sisters were cast, the offer came to me again. Filming preparations delayed it, and that period was about six to eight months. Even after initially declining, I kept thinking about it and wondered 'who ended up doing it?' so I asked the agency several times."
She continued, "Dramatically I ended up doing it, and I wanted to see Lee Jung-eun's mother again," adding, "As you can see from the film's highlight, the mother's role is important, and even today when you look at the costumes we supported by wearing only black. (laughs) When you read the script, anyone—anyone—would covet the mother's role. Still, because it was Lee Jung-eun's mother, we participated with the mindset that we would support her from the side."
Lee Jung-eun also added, "Kong Hyojin said she wanted to help me a lot as the daughter. That played a big part in her decision to appear. I was very grateful then."
Meanwhile, "Gyeongju trip" will be released on Aug. 26.
