Lee Jung-eun confessed the feelings she had for Park So-dam during the filming of Parasite.
On the morning of the 27th at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University entrance in Seoul, a production briefing for the film "Gyeongju trip" was held. Attending were lead actors Lee Jung-eun, Kong Hyojin, Park So-dam, Lee Yeon, and director Kim Mi-jo.
"Gyeongju trip" (written and directed by Kim Mi-jo, presented by Lotte Entertainment·Michigan Venture Capital Co., Ltd., distributed by Lotte Entertainment, produced by Studio High Five, co-produced by Euphoria ENT) depicts a family revenge drama of four mothers who, for their youngest daughter Gyeongju who did not return from a school trip, embark on a "killer" journey after eight years of waiting. It is director Kim Mi-jo's first commercial film, who was recognized for solid directing with her debut film "Seagull" at prominent domestic and international film festivals, and it has drawn attention even before release by being invited to the Hawaii International Film Festival and winning the audience award at the Florence Korean Film Festival.
Lee Jung-eun passionately played Ok-sil, a mother who dreamed of revenge for eight years after losing her daughter; Kong Hyojin played Jang-ju, the eldest daughter who cherishes the family; Park So-dam played Young-ju, the unemployed second daughter with a law school background; and Lee Yeon played Dong-ju, the third daughter and former wrestling athlete.
Lee Jung-eun and Park So-dam reunited seven years after director Bong Joon-ho's Parasite (2019). Lee Jung-eun said, "During Parasite, every time I saw her I wanted to hit her once. She was always trying to push me out, so when we did the 'action' the feeling was felt throughout my body. But when I meet her in a different role, the emotion disappears." She added, "After the film 'Ghost' and during my hiatus we even traveled together, and I thought it would be nice to work together again when my condition improved. I feel lucky that she became the second daughter who shares affection within this work; maybe it's a special kind of luck."
Park So-dam said, "When I think about the scene I filmed with my older sister in Parasite, I remember the line 'please move aside.' I glare at my sister, utter a single line, and chase her out. While filming that, my sister and I really connected." She added, "After I got sick and was recuperating, my sister helped me a lot. She really took care of me like a mother."
She continued, "Honestly, I couldn't tell my family or my mother 100% because I was worried about how much they would worry about my illness. But Lee Jeong-eun unni showed her worry and told me everything about how hard it was. She even came to my house at dawn to listen to me," and said, "Meeting as mother and daughter this time was wonderful in itself."
Park So-dam also expressed deep affection, saying, "In the film Young-ju has the most conflicts with her mother. I think the ability to have those conflicts comes from a lot of love. She is a senior I am always so grateful for. I feel I must do well for the rest of my life."
Meanwhile, "Gyeongju trip" opens on Aug. 26.
