2NE1 member Sandara Park confessed to hardships caused by immigrating to the Philippines during her childhood.
On the 24th, a video titled "The difficult times from being a Philippine superstar to becoming 2NE1" was released on the YouTube channel Yoon Do-hyun's Guitar Etc., showing singer Yoon Do-hyun meeting Sandara Park and talking with her.
That day Sandara Park honestly revealed the processes from the hard times when her family emigrated to the Philippines and they lived a difficult life before she debuted with 2NE1, to her growth as a singer in Korea. She began, "I moved to the Philippines in fourth grade of elementary school, when I was 10 years old. I spent an important period of my life there."
In fact, Sandara Park's adaptation to the Philippines was by no means smooth. She said, "I am still shy, but it was worse when I was young. After moving to the Philippines I went about 10 years without speaking. I couldn't speak English, and I couldn't speak Filipino either," which evoked sympathy. Being mocked by local friends for her poor foreign language skills deepened the trauma. At one point Sandara Park said, "A teacher once communicated with me using sign language. She thought I was a child who couldn't speak," which added to the shock.
What kept Sandara Park going was music. Sandara Park said, "The period when I nurtured my dream of becoming a singer was when Korea's first-generation idol seniors were active," and added, "Among them I was a fan of Fin.K.L." She said that even in the Philippines she rented recordings of Inkigayo from Korean video rooms and nurtured her dream. This made Sandara Park's past struggles and eventual debut in Korea all the more moving.
