Actor Yeon Jeong-hoon revealed his educational philosophy with Han Ga-in and recounted the remarkable growth of their two children who attended a gifted education center.
On the 24th broadcast of KBS 2TV Problem Child in House, Yeon Jeong-hoon candidly discussed childrearing and family matters.
Currently raising an 11-year-old daughter and an 8-year-old son, Yeon Jeong-hoon explained the reason he had their first child 10 years after marriage: "My wife wanted to fully enjoy newlywed life and build her career."
The cast expressed surprise that the couple's children had attended a gifted education center. Hong Jin Kyung said, "They were judged gifted on the gifted test and I heard their IQs are high," and asked, "Aren't both children from the gifted education center?" In response, Yeon Jeong-hoon said, "The eldest learned Hangul and English by herself at 40 months old," which surprised everyone.
In the subsequently released video, the eldest was shown solving Mensa test problems without hesitation.
Yeon Jeong-hoon explained that a natural environment helped more than special private education. He said, "With the eldest, my wife read a lot of books to her and I spoke with the child in English a lot," adding, "So she became very good at English." He added, "Without any separate special education, she began reading English books on her own."
In particular, Yeon Jeong-hoon revealed, "The current 11-year-old daughter's English ability tested at the level of a U.S. high school senior," surprising the cast.
Since Han Ga-in is also well known for participating in the school-era challenge Golden Bell, there was a reaction that her outstanding academic ability may have been passed on to her children.
The conversation about the younger son continued. When the cast said, "The younger son really resembles Han Ga-in," Hong Jin Kyung replied, "How lucky. They have everything," expressing envy.
Yeon Jeong-hoon said he values time with his family. He said, "We travel with the children once or twice a year," adding, "It is also meant to give their mother a bit of a rest."
