Jinsung married a wife the same age as him at 49. Jinsung said he did not have a wedding ceremony, explaining, "I should have had one for my wife, but I was embarrassed to make it public at my age, so I didn't."
Jinsung said that after the wedding he was diagnosed with lymphoma blood cancer and said, "If my wife hadn't been there, I would have died. Because I had lived alone, I had never been that sick. I didn't have the ability to get through it alone."
He went on, "I even had valvular heart disease, so I had to receive a lot of treatment. I just thought I was going to die. From then on, while undergoing chemotherapy, seeing my wife suffer because of me was so painful and agonizing. I often thought about sneaking away the next day," he said, expressing remorse toward his wife.
Jinsung recalled, "I finished up to the sixth round of chemotherapy and came home. My wife heard that white balloon flower was good for chemotherapy and went looking for it. My wife had a fragile body. She saw the white balloon flower on a rock. She fell while climbing a 6m rock. She came home around 1 a.m., and her face was white like a wax doll. I covered it with makeup so I wouldn't be shocked. She had six stitches in her head… seeing that, I cried a lot."
Jinsung said, "I resolved that betraying a person like this would be treating them like less than human garbage. I thought I must do my best to take care of her," pledging to do his utmost for his wife.<
