I Live Alone's DUN showcased an exceptional eye and shared behind-the-scenes stories about participating in a project to promote intangible cultural heritage.
On the 24th episode of the MBC entertainment show I Live Alone, singer DUN was shown working to preserve intangible cultural properties.
That day DUN said he had lived alone for four years and revealed his museum-like two-story dwellings, saying, "This house is a two-story dwellings. I like preserving things as they were without throwing them away and bringing out the original elements."
The house was filled with objects full of oriental beauty. On the second floor there was a giant sculpture, and DUN explained, "There is a sculptor I know. That artist gave it to me as a gift. I actually just put the things I like on the second floor."
Afterward DUN visited a custom frame-making shop. There he picked up a custom-made frame to store the work Bangpaeyeon by master craftsman Bae Mu-sam.
DUN said, "Teachers have given me gifts and there are things I bought, so naturally I have many such objects. While looking for furniture and objects I thought it was a perfect work, but it turned out to be Korea's intangible heritage. Since then I've been meeting and visiting intangible heritage masters," which surprised viewers.
Above all, DUN said he is working to revive intangible heritage. He confessed, "I heard those people's words and felt a lot. But when I looked into it, they said the lineage of Korea's intangible heritage could be broken off."
He added, "I wondered if there was any way I could help, so I meet the masters and introduce them to people. When the masters thank me, I feel strange and proud."
Back home DUN even made a light fixture himself using rattan and hanji paper. He expressed satisfaction with the lamp he completed carefully, stitch by stitch, with focused attention.
Meanwhile, DUN said, "I'm so glad another day passed without incident. My favorite saying is no news is good news. Since there was no news I did all the things I do when I have nothing to do," he said in wrapping up the day.
He especially said, "I absolutely tell people to try living alone. The reason is that living alone is actually painful and lonely. There are a lot of bothersome things, but when you are alone you finally get to know myself."
He continued, "Originally I thought I was perfect. At some point I thought, 'I'm an incomplete person.' But the fun of discovering each shortcoming one by one makes life look so beautiful, and I wonder if this is the joy of living."
