Director Chuck RUSSELL, well known for the film "The Mask," has died at the age of 74.
According to U.S. outlet Variety on the 24th (local time), director Chuck RUSSELL passed away on the 22nd near San Diego, U.S.
His death was officially confirmed through his lawyer, and reports say local fire authorities responded to his home after a report of an unconscious man.
Chuck RUSSELL began his career in the film industry in independent cinema as a screenwriter, production manager and assistant director, and made a successful directorial debut with "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3".
Especially notable among his filmography is "The Mask," a global mega-hit in 1994 that is one of his most representative works. Through this film, Cameron Diaz made her screen debut, and Jim CARRY rose to prominence as a world-famous star representing Hollywood.
On learning of the news, Jim CARRY expressed deep condolences in a statement. He said, "I consider it a great privilege to have worked with director Chuck RUSSELL, who brought joy, childlike wonder and an astonishing camaraderie to the set during the filming of 'The Mask,'" and added, "All the cast and crew were moved and inspired by his cheerfulness. We have all been blessed for years by those vibrant, eternal moments. I consider 'The Mask' one of the gems of my creative life. Thank you, Chuck."
Until recently, he showed tireless passion, announcing the production of two new films, "Hyperia" and "b," through his AI company Numorphic, which had built generative AI into the entire production pipeline.
