Actor Yeon Jung-hoon candidly talked about everything from his first meeting with his wife Han Ga-in to his proposal and the realistic daily life of a couple in their 21st year of marriage.
On the 24th broadcast of KBS 2TV Problem Child in House, Yeon Jung-hoon revealed behind-the-scenes details of his romance with Han Ga-in.
That day Yeon Jung-hoon introduced himself as "the nation's thief Yeon Jung-hoon" and said, "I was the first to create the nickname 'one of Korea's three great thieves.'" He laughed, saying, "I didn't expect my joke at the press conference, 'I'm a thief, right,' to be talked about for so long."
Yeon Jung-hoon and Han Ga-in first met in the 2003 drama 'Yellow Handkerchief.' Yeon Jung-hoon said, "I wasn't smitten from the start. I just thought she was a pretty junior actress." He added, "But the more I got to know her, the more genuine she was. She was pretty but sensible, and even at a young age she had a clear sense of self," and said his feelings for Han Ga-in grew.
By contrast, Han Ga-in was slow to show her feelings. Yeon Jung-hoon recalled, "I began to have feelings little by little, but my wife didn't show much reaction," adding, "still, she accepted all my invitations to go on dates."
The decisive moment came the day Han Ga-in cut her bangs. He said, "We had a café shoot and she showed up with her bangs cut. She looked so pretty," adding, "I decided I had to confess that day." But he couldn't find the courage during the shoot. Yeon Jung-hoon said, "Even after the shoot ended and I took her home, I couldn't speak," and recalled, "I felt like it had to be that day, so on the way back I confessed by phone, asking, 'How about meeting up sometime?'" When Han Ga-in accepted, he remembered, "I opened the window and screamed because I was so happy."
The proposal was also special. With help from a friend who majored in car design, Yeon Jung-hoon said he rented an entire café to set up the event, adding, "My friend even lined up the supporting actors and set everything up." He said that at the proposal he confessed, "You know how much I like cars? But I like you more than that." When the cast asked, "Which would you choose: 10 foreign cars or Han Ga-in?" Yeon Jung-hoon answered, "Han Ga-in," and when asked, "What about 1 trillion won and Han Ga-in?" he also answered without hesitation, "Han Ga-in," showing his devoted side.
However, it was also mentioned that Han Ga-in once said in the past, "If I were born again, I would not marry Yeon Jung-hoon." Yeon Jung-hoon joked, "I told her to try living it and if it's not for her she can come back," and added, "I'll think about it, too," drawing laughter. He also frankly admitted, "I was a little hurt."
Questions about their last kiss followed. When the cast asked, "Not a peck but a real kiss—when was it?" Yeon Jung-hoon hesitated for a moment and then answered, "last year," surprising everyone. He added, "Kissing isn't easy. You need a bit of an opportunity," delivering a realistic answer from a couple in their 21st year of marriage and causing uproarious laughter.<
