Actor Hong Su-ju vividly portrayed the tragic fate looming over the palace through the Netflix series "East Palace".
Hong Su-ju played Seung-eun sanggung, suspected to be the pond ghost, in the Netflix series "East Palace" (directed by Choi Jeong-gyu / written by Kwon So-ra · Seo Jae-won), released on the 17th, delivering the character's complex psychology with restrained acting.
"East Palace" is a work that depicts the story of Gu-cheon, who has the ability to move between the world of ghosts (鬼), and the palace maid Saenggang, who keeps secrets, as Saenggang answers the king's summons and uncovers the curse dwelling in the East Palace. In the drama, Hong Su-ju captivated viewers by precisely shaping Seung-eun sanggung's three-dimensional narrative, who faced tragedy because of false accusations and social status limits.
Hong Su-ju meticulously portrayed the character's tragedy, expressing not only a chilling sense of boundary but also intense anger and a deep-seated han (恨) with a vivid atmosphere. The completion of the character's inner resentment increased immersion.
Since debuting in 2021 with KakaoTV's "Loves of the City" (literal translation of original title), Hong Su-ju has consistently appeared in various works, including KBS 2TV drama-special "Between", and Netflix's "Sweet Home" seasons 2 and 3.
She has gone on to portray a variety of characters, from Na Hye-won in Disney+'s "The Impossible Heir" to Kim Woo-hee in MBC's "Moon River", and most recently Seung-eun sanggung in "East Palace".<
