Hollywood top star Johnny Depp (63) surprised fans worldwide with a dramatic visual transformation.
According to foreign media including The Hollywood Reporter, Johnny Depp, who was previously named "the sexiest man alive" twice, recently made a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.
That day, Depp appeared on stage in costume as the protagonist "Ebenezer Scrooge" to promote the fantasy film Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, scheduled to be released on Nov. 13 this year. On a set recreating a 19th-century London street covered in fake snow, with carols ringing out, when he opened the door and stepped out, the many fans gathered at the scene erupted in cheers.
Wearing a Victorian long coat and a black top hat, Depp completely hid his naturally handsome looks with a gray wig and heavy makeup to appear miserly. He maintained his immersion in the grumpy Scrooge character the whole time, even amid enthusiastic fan cheers, drawing admiration. When a fan shouted, "Have a good day, Mr. Scrooge!" Depp, fully in character, snapped back, "What is so good about it?" and just before closing the door and going back in, poked his head out and shouted Scrooge's signature line, "Humbug (the holidays are all nonsense)!" and sent the crowd into a frenzy.
The new film Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol was directed by Ti West, who became one of Hollywood's most watched directors with films such as Pearl and X, and boasts a star-studded lineup including Johnny Depp, Rupert Grint, Ian McKellen, and Daisy Ridley. It is scheduled to open in theaters on Nov. 13. Ian McKellen, who worked alongside him, praised him in an interview, saying, "Johnny Depp was in truly fantastic condition. He was pleasant and serious, looked after his colleagues carefully, and the set atmosphere was full of love."
With this, Johnny Depp has fired a perfect signal of comeback following the long legal battle with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Having announced his acting return with Jeanne du Barry, the opening film at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, and demonstrated his abilities as a director with the 2024 film Modi, he continues a relentless work pace with this fantasy blockbuster and the forthcoming action thriller Day Drinker, in which he will co-star with Penélope Cruz.
