Actor Jung Ho-yeon stepped up promotions for the film "Hope."
On the 24th, a video titled "If Hwang Jung-min says there are aliens, then there are" was posted on the YouTube channel "Channel Fullmoon."
While discussing the film "Hope" that day, when a question about the period setting came up, Jung Ho-yeon said, "Because it's a fictional world, I think I thought a lot about what would be cinematically effective for everything," and Na Young-seok said, "The period setting is the 1980s," to which Jung Ho-yeon replied, "We didn't set that precisely."
Zo In-sung explained, "What made people think the period setting was old was that it was a time without cellphones; then everything makes sense. If someone films, the story becomes complicated. So we only hinted at an analog era feeling and then made people focus on the space."
Jung Ho-yeon added, "Because of that, wasn't it a little freer what could be expressed cinematically? I came to think that."
Also, Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung and Jung Ho-yeon mentioned some scenes in the film and said there was also Na Hong-jin's wit. In response, Jung Ho-yeon asked, "This may be the director's charm, but I hope people watch the film with a very pure heart without thinking about speculations, guesses or the director's meaning."
Meanwhile, "Hope," which was released on the 15th, is Na Hong-jin's next film in 10 years and is approaching 3 million viewers.
On its ninth day after release it remained No. 1 at the box office and continued its successful run, while "Hope" is dividing audiences sharply because its somewhat unfriendly storytelling in the science fiction (SF) genre, which is rare in Korea, provokes strong likes and dislikes.
