Actor Yeon Jung-hoon directly revealed the backstory behind the nickname "national thief" that follows him.
On the 24th broadcast of KBS 2TV Problem Child in House, Yeon Jung-hoon appeared and shared various episodes surrounding his marriage to Han Ga-in.
That day, Yeon Jung-hoon introduced himself and jokingly said "I am the national thief Yeon Jung-hoon," drawing laughter. The cast then said, "No wonder he seems so relaxed," "Isn't he the one who obtained the greatest treasure?", "He doesn't seem to have major difficulties in life," and "He is stable," pouring out envy toward Yeon Jung-hoon.
About the nickname "one of Korea's three great thieves," Yeon Jung-hoon also said "I take pride in it," which made people laugh. He went on to confess, "Actually, I was the one who first created that nickname." Yeon Jung-hoon recalled, "After I announced my marriage to Han Ga-in, at the press conference I was asked, 'How do you feel about getting married?' and I joked, 'I'm a thief, right?' I didn't think it would last this long." He added, "I really didn't expect it to have as much impact as the soy-marinated crab's 'rice thief'," prompting loud laughter.
At the time Han Ga-in also revealed, "I heard many people say who lost out more," and Yeon Jung-hoon said, "The image of 'thief' seems to have followed me since then."
Kim Sook recalled, "At that time when Han Ga-in was very active in her career, everyone was surprised when she suddenly announced her marriage." Hearing this, Kim Jong Kook and Joo Woo-jae joked, "We should make him pay more taxes," and Yeon Jung-hoon shot back, "I had no one on my side then," turning the studio into a sea of laughter.
