Comedian Shin Bong-Sun recalled the late Jeon Yoo-sung and showed tears.
On the 24th, a press conference for the 14th Busan International Comedy Festival was held at the Shocking K-pop Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Lee Hong-ryeol, Shin Bong-Sun, Kim Shin-young, Zoltan Lee Jae-hyung·Han Hyun-min·Jung Jin-wook are scheduled to meet audiences with a Jeon Yoo-sung show without Jeon Yoo-sung.
The late Jeon Yoo-sung passed away on Sept. 25 last year at the age of 76 from worsening pleural effusion symptoms. Born in 1949, Jeon Yoo-sung, who was 76 this year, is regarded as a figure who left a distinctive legacy beyond a simple comedian, as a broadcast writer, performance planner and film director in many fields.
Shin Bong-Sun said of the late Jeon Yoo-sung, "He was someone who paid attention to the details of things that were casually overlooked while living in the troupe. He was an elder who cared for his disciples with his heart. When he passed away I felt like I had lost my father. I went to the funeral for three days straight, and being there made me think he was an even truer elder. At around my current age he gathered troupe members and taught them comedy, and honestly I don't think I could do that. I can't live that way, but I wanted to do something that would earn his praise. It would be difficult to gather everyone to perform one play, but I want to set aside individual times and present them meaningfully," she said.
Especially Shin Bong-Sun added, "Teacher Jeon Yoo-sun is such a great figure but is quickly forgotten. I don't know what plans there might be, but I hope this show continues and becomes a good stage to honor him."
The 14th Busan International Comedy Festival will run for 10 days from Aug. 21 to Aug. 30 across Busan.
