Tang Wei, a China-born actress and the wife of director Kim Tae-yong, welcomed her second child after 12 years of marriage.
On the 22nd (local time), Chinese local media including Sina Entertainment reported that Tang Wei announced the birth of her second child on Chinese social media that day.
She posted a photo of the four family members holding hands and a horse drawing made for the child, and reported that "Summer (the first daughter) said, 'The four-family trip has begun with the foal (the second child's pet name).'"); the drawing is said to have been painted by Tang Wei's father, who is an artist, to commemorate the birth of his second grandson.
Tang Wei's pregnancy was first revealed in April. At the time, Tang Wei attended an official event for a British luxury fashion house held in Shanghai, China, and a D-line was spotted during the event, which fueled pregnancy rumors. In response, Tang Wei herself posted on social media, "Yes. an unexpected big thing happened," adding, "Of course I'm very happy. There will be more foals at home, and I am very much looking forward to everything," acknowledging the pregnancy rumors.
Later, a representative for Tang Wei also told OSEN, "Actress Tang Wei is currently pregnant with her second child," but added a cautious note, "We ask for your understanding as we find it difficult to disclose details such as the specific birth timing or the fetus's sex because those are personal matters." Afterwards, Sina Entertainment reported that the second child was a son.
Meanwhile, the fact that Tang Wei had given birth to her second child was revealed belatedly. A representative for Tang Wei explained, "Actress Tang Wei recently gave birth safely to a second son. Although the photo was released yesterday (the 22nd), the birth did not occur on that day."
Tang Wei married director Kim Tae-yong, whom she met through the 2011 film Late Autumn, in 2014 and welcomed their first daughter, Summer, in 2016. Now, 10 years later, it was reported that she healthily gave birth to her second child at the age of 47, prompting many people to offer congratulations.
Notably, before her pregnancy was made public in April, news broke that Tang Wei would appear in director Park Chan-wook's new film, The Brigands of Rattlecreek, a project Park had worked with on Decision to Leave; the casting news drew attention. The Brigands of Rattlecreek is known as Park Chan-wook's 13th feature film and his second Hollywood film. It is described as a western about a sheriff and a doctor who seek revenge against a gang of robbers that exploits heavy rain and thunderstorms to terrorize and prey on the residents of a small town.
The film is based on a screenplay co-written with S. Craig Zahler, who directed Bone Tomahawk. Because the scenario Zahler had presented in 2006 is being officially produced over a 20-year span, global film fans' interest has been focused on the project. In addition, Hollywood stars such as Matthew McConaughey, Pedro Pascal and Austin Butler, along with Tang Wei, are set to appear in large numbers, and it was reported that a production budget of $60 million (about 89 billion won) is being invested, raising expectations.
As a result, Tang Wei is celebrating the double joy of giving birth to her second child ahead of her second collaboration with director Park Chan-wook. Having already confirmed her next project, attention is focused on her busy activities that will follow after the birth.
