The hand position in the poster of La La Land, the film that Hollywood actor Ryan Gosling had long complained about, has been corrected.
On the 21st, U.S. outlet The Hollywood Reporter reported that Lionsgate unveiled a newly designed poster to mark the 10th anniversary of La La Land's release.
The revealed poster draws attention by showing the so-called "flat hand" (the hand laid flat) from the original theatrical poster, which had bothered Ryan Gosling for years, corrected to appear with the hand extended upward straight. Previously, Ryan Gosling had voiced strong complaints about the shape of his hand in the poster in multiple interviews over the years.
In 2024, Gosling told The Wall Street Journal magazine about the La La Land poster, "I was dancing with Emma (Stone), and I didn't expect that scene to become the movie poster. Originally both hands were supposed to be raised, but everyone discouraged it, and they thought laying the hand (horizontally) would look cooler. At the time I was sure it was cooler," he recalled.
Gosling added, "Now when I look at that poster, and when I have to keep seeing it everywhere, I regret it, thinking '(the pose I originally intended) would have looked much cooler,'" noting, "That hand shape killed the overall energy. I call it the 'La La Hand.'"
In the film, Gosling played Sebastian (Seb), a jazz pianist who falls in love with Mia (played by Emma Stone), an aspiring actress who is repeatedly rejected at auditions, and won the Golden Globe for best actor. Emma Stone also won the Academy Award for best actress for the role, propelling her to global stardom.
Meanwhile, to mark its 10th anniversary, La La Land will return to theaters starting Aug. 16 through AMC's Dolby Cinema.
