A former manager, A, who had accused comedian Park Na-rae of abusing power was sent to prosecution in custody on an attempted extortion charge, and the legal representative handling the defense has issued a statement.
On the 16th, the Yongsan police station in Seoul arrested A, the former manager of Park Na-rae, on charges including attempted extortion. Another manager, B, who had conflicts with Park Na-rae, will be sent to the prosecution without detention.
According to police, A is accused of demanding an amount equivalent to 10% of the company's 2024 revenue from Park Na-rae, threatening to expose false claims that Park Na-rae had privately used company funds for her ex-boyfriend and others. Police are also investigating allegations that A embezzled about 30 million won in company funds.
In response, Park Na-rae's side told OSEN, "I heard the former manager A was arrested on the 16th. The police will transfer the case to the prosecution. I understand he is currently detained in a detention center."
After news of the former manager A's arrest surfaced, netizens flooded the YouTube channel of lawyer Jang Hyun-oh of the Kangsim law firm, who recently said he had taken the former manager's case.
In response, lawyer Jang Hyun-oh explained in a YouTube channel comment, "This case is one for which our law firm was recently appointed as the new defense counsel, and it is a matter that has been under investigation for a long time prior to that."
He added, "We are carefully re-examining the investigative records from law enforcement, including the current arrest warrant, as well as the claims of the previous defense team, and we ask for understanding that we cannot disclose specific details because of the nature of an ongoing investigation."
Lawyer Jang Hyun-oh pledged, "As defense counsel going forward, we will do our best with responsibility to ensure the client's right to defense and to accurately establish the facts between both parties."
Meanwhile, lawyer Jang Hyun-oh said he took A's defense on the 11th and said, "As you know, the claims of both sides are contradictory and the evidence is unclear in places, so there is a great deal to dispute, and we are fighting intensely. I will do my best to fight for the one manager who trusted me."
