Comedian Kim Shin-young recalled that she was psychologically unstable during her diet.
On the 21st, a video titled "Kim Shin-young tells real happiness" was uploaded to the ChimChakMan YouTube channel.
That day, ChimChakMan said of Kim Shin-young, "She is famous for really enjoying foods," and Kim Shin-young said, "That's right. The seal has been lifted now," adding, "I lost weight for 14 years and came back in six weeks. From exactly age 30 I went from 88kg to 44kg. I cut myself in half to 44kg and kept living like that, but it didn't work. It wasn't enjoyable. I heard a lot from Professor Jeon Yu-seong. Actually, his one sentence seemed the biggest. 'I hope you live eating what you want,' 'Live happily and enjoyably,' he said," she confessed.
She recalled at the time, "Until then, if anyone told me something like 'you look cuter when you gain weight,' I would say, 'that's just a passing remark.' You didn't gain weight. Usually skinny people would say it. I would say, 'it's not your business,' and it felt like it was 70-30 back then."
ChimChakMan asked, "You've somewhat recovered now, right? Do you regret not eating or do you think you did well?" and Kim Shin-young answered directly, "I did well. I ate well."
ChimChakMan asked, "When you didn't eat, were you more irritable or anything like that?" Kim Shin-young said, "I didn't feel it, but hearing from people around me, I think I became a bit twisted. I took things offensively. I had lost weight, and people kept telling me to gain weight, so I would say, 'you try losing weight,' and I had a bit of a persecutory mindset and a lot of inferiority complex. When you let everything go, it's so comfortable. It's a fine line," she described the change.
ChimChakMan said, "When you endure, you inevitably become more sensitive. It's not that you become indifferent; you're constantly holding back," and Kim Shin-young said, "You're constantly holding back. Because I love ice cream, ramen, bread, rice so much, I stopped all of them. I also quit alcohol. I'm still not drinking. Of course there are days I really want to drink, but you can roughly substitute with cola, right? But back then I didn't even drink cola, so there was nothing to replace it with. It was like acting like someone cultivating the way, but not actually cultivating it; pretending to be a person cultivating the way doesn't work," she revealed her extreme dieting methods.
Then ChimChakMan said in surprise, "Then you'd have a reality check, like 'what am I doing this for?'" and Kim Shin-young said, "It hits hard. 'What are you trying to do like this now.' The professor said it before he passed, saying, 'eat a little. what's the harm?' so I started with cake and now I'm very happy," adding, "Actually, that exists. My mind becomes more generous. When I'm very annoyed I think, 'I'll just go home and smash some chicken or snack and if I'm sleepy I'll just sleep.' But when dieting, when you go home you have to hold back again. So you get really annoyed. I didn't make a breathing space for myself, and when the seal is lifted, all the things I ate then run rampant," she shook her head.
Asked, "How did you survive 14 years without a breathing space?" she said, "I think I endured with sheer grit. Honestly, 70% was because of people watching around me. I had said things before, so I worried they'd say, 'I knew you'd do that,' or 'oh my.' I hated that. I didn't want to go through that or accept it. And when I was thin, I had skinny fat. My cholesterol levels were higher than when I was fat. I was at risk for diabetes because of stress. But this time my blood sugar is all normal. My health was worse then. I actually slept less when I was thin," she said, revealing that after the yo-yo effect her body and mind became healthier.
