Former SBS announcer Choi Ki-hwan shared an update that he transformed into a businessman after leaving the company through voluntary retirement.
On the 21st, the YouTube channel "B-grade Studio" released a video titled "We invited people who struggled after leaving SBS."
That day, guests Choi Ki-hwan, Kim Il-joong, Kim Hwan and Cho Jeong-sik appeared, and Nam Ho-yeon said, "My feeling is that if Choi Ki-hwan had stayed at SBS, he could have become president, so why would he..." Choi Ki-hwan modestly replied, "I couldn't have become president," and Nam Ho-yeon asked, "Did you take voluntary retirement?"
Choi Ki-hwan said, "I could have retired with full tenure. I worked there for 20 years," and added, "Later I regretted it. I thought it was the right thing for these friends. I thought supporting them and cheering if they had opportunities outside was the right thing, but when everyone left, I became lonely at some point."
Choi Ki-hwan said, "A company has meaning when people are together; I later realized I didn't know that," and Cho Jeong-sik lamented, "The funny thing is we all just left. But Ki-hwan senior took a lump-sum and took voluntary retirement." Choi Ki-hwan confessed, "Yes, I received a lot and left with that," and Kim Seung-jin asked, "Does your current company give you a lot of work like assignments?"
Choi Ki-hwan said, "I am running a business, so they paid less attention to me," and Kim Il-joong said, "Do you know the light green car plate? He comes in that car today too."
When asked what business he was running, Choi Ki-hwan said, "I run an announcer academy," and Kim Hwan added, "the biggest in Korea." Choi Ki-hwan said, "I burned all my assets and am really working hard," and Cho Jeong-sik added, "Not all your assets. It was voluntary retirement," eliciting laughter.
Meanwhile, Choi Ki-hwan joined in 2003 as part of SBS's 11th open recruitment class of announcers and left SBS in 2021 through voluntary retirement.
