Broadcaster Kim Dae-ho reported health problems in Ethiopia's extreme environment and was urgently transported to a hospital. The scene, which had always shown his strong image, was instantly gripped by tension as filming was halted amid his sudden condition.
On the 21st at 9:30 p.m., MBC every1's 'The Great Guide 3' aired, depicting Park Myung Soo, Kim Dae-ho, Choi Daniel and Lee Mujin finishing their schedule in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital, then embarking on an unpredictable journey toward northern Danakil, known as the "land of death." That episode ranked first in the same time slot across all channels, including terrestrial broadcasters, among women in their 40s.
Early in the episode, the cast enjoyed a Korean food mukbang featuring soybean paste stew and samgyeopsal made with beans grown locally in Ethiopia, then continued the warm atmosphere by visiting a famous café in the coffee's homeland and buying roasted beans worth a total of 260,000 won in bulk. They also visited Merkato, the largest market on the African continent, and showed spirited energy by trying a local traditional board game.
The mood shifted dramatically when they entered the trip's highlight, the barren northern Danakil, where temperatures can reach 60 degrees. Kim Dae-ho, who is usually called a man of nature and had expressed unusual anticipation saying "apart from active volcanoes, there is nowhere I haven't been," began a full exploration with a local Afar guide.
Amid the overwhelming wonders of nature — mirages in the middle of the desert and an oasis where herds of camels gathered — an unexpected crisis arrived. Kim Dae-ho complained of a sudden headache and nausea and ultimately vomited, showing a rapid deterioration in condition.
The members were shocked to see Kim Dae-ho, the team's reliable anchor who boasted strong stamina, collapse. Park Myung Soo said, "Dae-ho being sick means he's really sick. He never shows it," unable to hide his worry, and Choi Daniel and Lee Mujin also said, "It was upsetting and made us feel bad to see the most dependable and strong hyung lying down," expressing their regret.
As the situation worsened, the production team immediately stopped filming and transported Kim Dae-ho to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Viewers are concerned and focused on whether the ever-energetic Kim Dae-ho will recover and safely rejoin the journey.
In the trailer at the end of the broadcast, the cast finally entered their final destination, the active volcano Erta Ale, and footage was shown of them facing dizzying cliffs and toxic volcanic gases.<
