A husband from the "PUBG couple," who had lost his terminally ill wife earlier, held a belated funeral on Again, Love.
On Jan. 20, the MBC program O Eun-young report-Again, love: after (shortened to Again, love) aired the second story of the "PUBG couple."
The "PUBG couple" previously appeared on O Eun-young report-Again, love with the story of a wife who was diagnosed terminal with advanced stomach cancer and a husband who stayed by her side with unwavering love, drawing public attention. At the end of the first broadcast, news that the wife had ultimately passed away drew sorrow. The husband of the "PUBG couple" sought Again, love once more with his two children.
In the second story of the "PUBG couple," the husband's daily life, plunged into guilt and sadness proportional to how much he loved his wife, added to the poignancy. The eldest child's confrontation with the mother's death and the belated funeral moved viewers to tears.
Dr. O Eun-young conducted follow-up counseling for the first time in the O Eun-young report series. The husband tried not to cry in front of his children after losing his wife. He felt deep guilt over not being present at his wife's deathbed, especially because she had repeatedly urged him to come home early, yet he was barely holding on as he watched his two remaining children. In response, Dr. O said, "How could you be brave after losing someone you love?" acknowledging the grief but stressing, "What is more concerning than grief is a life falling apart," and urged the husband to attend to his daily life.
After the follow-up counseling, the two children for the first time recognized their mother's death. The eldest, who still thought their mother was in the hospital, visited the columbarium where the mother rested and, trembling, said, "Mom isn't in the hospital." The child who had been holding back and said, "I miss Mom," broke into tears, moving all the members of O Eun-young report.
Because of financial hardship, the wife's funeral was held without even a wake, adding to the sorrow. The husband of the "PUBG couple" held a belated funeral on his wife's 31st birthday, 35 days after her death. At the funeral, the husband, eating a meal, cried and said, "How tastelessly shameless this is," and expressed gratitude for the condolences from mourners who visited the makeshift altar.
Meanwhile, Dr. O Eun-young advised that the eldest likely had already sensed the family's change and recommended that when the children miss their mother they should be allowed to call for her and cry at the columbarium whenever they need to. She said this to leave open ways and paths for them to long for her. Through this, both the children and the husband of the "PUBG couple" should be able to accept the farewell.
Finally, the husband of the "PUBG couple" left a heartfelt farewell to his wife, saying, "Thank you. And I was happy. Sleep well. If there is a next life, I will be born as you and love myself, and you will be born as me and love yourself."
