SK hynix alumnus MBC announcer Kim Joon-sang revealed the story of selling his shares too early and expressed belated regret.
Recently appearing on MBC standard FM Son Tae Jin's Trot Radio, Kim Joon-sang introduced himself as "the person who left SK hynix and became an announcer" and disclosed an investment anecdote from his working days.
He said, "At that time, my entire fortune was tied up in SK hynix stock," and "I bought about 10 million won worth at around 80,000 won."
But he sold everything when the stock reached 100,000 won. Kim Joon-sang said, "When it hit 100,000 won I sold it all," and added, "As of today, hasn't it passed 2 million won?" which evoked regret.
Earlier, Kim Joon-sang had shared the same story on MBC Omniscient Interfering View. At the time, he introduced his career move from working in SK hynix's public relations team to becoming an MBC announcer and said, "A lot of people ask if I have Hynix stock; I bought 10 million won worth at 80,000 won and sold it all at 100,000 won."
At the time of filming, SK hynix's stock price was about 2.3 million won. Calculated at that time, the value of the held shares reached about 336 million won, making the early sale an even greater regret.
However, Kim Joon-sang calmly said, "Once you sell stock you never look back. Still, it's okay." Even so, he joked, "If I could turn back time… if I had stayed at Hynix, wouldn't I have not gotten married?" which drew laughter.
He also compared the atmosphere at the company when he worked there with the current company mood. Kim Joon-sang said, "When I worked there, the memory market was weak so the performance bonus was about 8 million won," and added, "Now a colleague at my same tenure received 120 million won just in performance pay this year, and he said he'll get about three times more in early next year."
He went on, "Until last year I said I wouldn't go back even if they tripled my salary, but now they really might have to offer three times," he joked, prompting laughs from the cast.
