Hollywood top actress Anne Hathaway (43) broke down in tears she had been holding back after legendary actress Whoopi Goldberg (70) offered heartfelt praise during a broadcast.
Anne Hathaway appeared as a guest on ABC's popular talk show 'The View' aired on the 20th (local time). Currently pregnant with her third child, she burst into tears after receiving unexpected, touching praise from the legendary "EGOT (Emmy·Grammy·Oscar·Tony)" star Whoopi Goldberg.
On the show, Whoopi Goldberg looked at Anne Hathaway and opened by saying, "It has been truly wonderful to watch you grow." Sensing the rising emotion, Hathaway tried to stop it by saying, "Don't," as if to dissuade her.
But Goldberg did not stop and sincerely said, "You have really blossomed beautifully, and you have grown into this wonderful actress. My girl…" Choked up, Hathaway covered her face with her hands and repeated, "No, don't," but Goldberg emphasized, "You must know and remember this."
Eventually in tears, Anne Hathaway smiled brightly and said, "If I weren't pregnant right now, I wouldn't have cried this much," and confessed, "I don't know what to say. Thank you. You know how I feel about you," filling the studio with warm emotion.
Anne Hathaway, 43 this year, is in her 13th year of marriage with her husband Adam Shulman and is expecting her third child after her 10-year-old son Jonathan and 6-year-old son Jack.
She is currently continuing the promotional tour for Christopher Nolan's new film, a grand reinterpretation of Homer's epic, The Odyssey. In the film she gave a passionate performance as Penelope, the clever wife of Odysseus, king of Ithaca (played by Matt Damon).
Anne Hathaway said in an interview, "My personal life, becoming a mother, and the fortune of marrying the love of my life allowed me to connect deeply with the character," and expressed deep affection for the work, saying, "Many will relate to the story of a person trapped in a perfect script who must play a perfect game."
The film The Odyssey has become a worldwide mega hit, earning $264 million in revenue just four days after its release, easily surpassing its $250 million production budget (about 340 billion won). It also scored 95% critic freshness and 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, capturing both box office and critical success. The film features an all-star cast including Matt Damon and Anne Hathaway, as well as Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya and others.
Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway is set to co-star with Ewan McGregor in the Aug. 14 release of the sci-fi dinosaur film The End of Oak Street, and on Oct. 2 she is scheduled to appear in Verity, based on the thriller novel by Colleen Hoover, among more than a dozen upcoming projects that underscore her busy global schedule.
