Christopher Nolan's new film "Odyssey" is sweeping theaters worldwide, creating an overwhelming box office storm. It has topped the box office in 69 countries including North America, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Australia and India, proving its global box office strength.
Box Office Mojo reports that "Odyssey" recorded global opening box office revenue of $264.06 million (Hanwha about 39.08 billion won). This is the highest global opening for a Christopher Nolan film, surpassing the previous record holder "The Dark Knight Rises" as well as breaking the opening records of his other major works such as "Oppenheimer", "Tenet", "Dunkirk" and "Interstellar".
The Wrap praised it, saying "You can't say Hollywood doesn't make films like this anymore. No one ever made a film like this in the first place," and Time Out reviewed, "An overwhelming cinematic experience that hits like a storm! Prepare motion sickness pills!"
The BBC praised it as "an immersive experience as if we are sailing alongside the voyage ourselves," and The Hollywood Reporter lauded it as "a colossal spectacle that dominates the IMAX screen." IndieWire also offered praise, calling it "an overwhelming immersion in which the heat of Troy vividly lives and breathes."
"Odyssey" has been recognized for both artistry and popularity on Rotten Tomatoes with a freshness score of 95% and a popcorn index of 97%. Nolan's signature overwhelming direction and scale have once again captured the hearts of audiences worldwide, cementing its presence as this year's most talked-about film. It opens nationwide on Aug. 5.
