(Continued from interview ①) Actress Jin Se Yun, who gave a passionate performance in "Recipe For Love," shared her feelings about reuniting with senior actor So E-hyun in the same project for the first time in 14 years since "Bridal Mask."
Jin Se Yun conducted an interview on the afternoon of the 20th at a café in Noryangjin-dong, Dongjak District, Seoul. There, she spoke with OSEN about the KBS 2TV weekend drama Recipe For Love (abbreviated Recipe For Love), which concluded on the 19th.
"Recipe For Love" is a family make-up drama in which two families tangled in bad blood for 30 years resolve their misunderstandings, heal each other's wounds, and are reborn as a single family. In this, Jin Se Yun gave a passionate performance as the female lead, Gong Joo A. Gong Joo A earned a medical license because of her mother's pressure but ultimately followed her dream and chose the path of a designer. Despite the label of being from medical school, she worked hard to hone her skills, and with her distinctive lovable energy she constantly lit up those around her and was loved.
In particular, Gong Joo A was involved in a love line with Yang Hyunbin (played by So E-hyun) in the drama. Accordingly, Jin Se Yun teamed up with So E-hyun for the romance scenes. It was the first time in 14 years since the 2012 KBS 2TV drama "Bridal Mask" that she met So E-hyun as her on-screen counterpart. "I wanted to bring out the romance with Hyunbin oppa well," Jin Se Yun began, then laughed, "It was something we had to do well on set. Hyunbin oppa is such a veteran I trusted him and went in."
About her chemistry with So E-hyun, Jin Se Yun said, "Being comfortable emotionally was such a big help. From the start we quickly grew close. I thought it was such a relief that we were close. Back during 'Bridal Mask' I was so young and barely able to take care of myself. I couldn't remember what kind of style he had or what acting he did on set. I only remembered him simply as a good senior. But one of his habitual phrases is, 'Se Yun, you'll know, oppa's always like this.' Even though I didn't remember, as we continued filming I gradually felt it and things came to mind later," she said.
She continued, "Maybe because we became close so quickly, the romance scenes felt awkward. It was like suddenly having to kiss a senior from school you're close to. Later, oppa said he almost laughed after shooting the first cut. At first, starting the romance felt strange, but later it became comfortable and we filmed while thinking a lot about how to make the romance look beautiful."
She also said, "I was often told, 'You're really the same. It's just like back then.' At the same time they said, 'Se Yun has really grown up.' Because they saw me when I was 19 or 20, they had treated me like a youngster. But hasn't 13 or 14 years already passed?" she laughed.
Jin Se Yun recalled, "Actually I never felt the passage of that time. It felt like only seven or eight years. But hearing it was 14 years was surprising. When you work hard as an actor you take care of yourself and your appearance doesn't change much, and the camera operators and audio technicians were people I'd seen then, so they felt like people from one or two years ago, so it didn't feel like a long time."
She added, "Thinking beyond acting, I've become more attentive to those around me. Back then I was the youngest. I was young everywhere I went and used to be the one taken care of. Now I want to take care of others more. I thought more about how to treat people. Of course my manager is my senior, but other staff are juniors. Thinking about how to care for people younger than me is the biggest change, I think," she said.
In addition, Jin Se Yun said, "I want to be a great adult. Senior actors on our show took such good care of me. Senior actor Yoo Ho Jung really looked after me. She and the seniors took care of the juniors and staff too. Watching that, I realized there were things I hadn't thought of, so I want to become a great adult and take care of others." She added, "I learned a lot not only in terms of acting but also as a person. This is my second project with Kim Mi Sook since 'Okjungwa.' During filming she told me, 'Se Yun has really improved so much since then. You're doing much better,' and I almost cried. I was moved thinking, 'So she cares for juniors so carefully.'"
Naturally, marriage advice was exchanged on set. Jin Se Yun said, "On our drama seniors kept telling me, 'Date quickly and get married quickly.' People usually say you can afford to marry later if you act, but in this project they especially told me to fully enjoy dating and get married early. Women once faced times when a career could be harmed, but that period has already passed and is no longer important. Because personal life is important, they told me to find that life, which made me think a lot."
