MBC variety show "Best Peak" struggled to gain traction despite cast members issuing a direct nationwide apology to overcome poor ratings.
On the 9th episode of "Best Peak," which aired on the 19th, You Se Yoon, Jang Dong-min, Heo Kyunghwan, Boom and Yang Se-hyung held an emergency ratings countermeasure meeting and were shown diagnosing the program's crisis.
"Best Peak" received an opportunity for a seven-episode extension and tried various changes such as leaving the mountain to stage chase sequences, experiencing bandit life, and running a raw fish restaurant, but recently it has been stuck in the 1% range for three consecutive extended episodes and is having a hard time. That day's broadcast also recorded 1.2% nationwide, a drop of 0.4 percentage points from the previous week.
The members accepted reality as they looked at the per-minute ratings graph released by the production team. Heo Kyunghwan said "the peak rating came when we started eating samgyetang," and Boom self-deprecatingly said "the samgyetang insert came out better than our one-shot" to get laughs. Yang Se-hyung's love line and some settings were mentioned as factors in the ratings decline, and viewers' harsh reviews were also revealed. Comments included "It was the least fun," "The opening alone is 30 minutes," "It would be better to go back to the mountain," and "I miss season 1."
In the end, at the end of the broadcast the members bowed 90 degrees to the viewers. Jang Dong-min apologized, saying "We are sorry to everyone who spared your valuable Sunday evening to watch 'Best Peak'" and pleaded, "We five ignorant people have only realized it now. Please don't change the channel and save us."
On the same day's broadcast, Kim Jun-Ho, Kim Ji-min and even Shin Bong-Sun appeared to lend support. Kim Ji-min, seeing Shin Bong-Sun, exclaimed "Uwa, she's so thin" in admiration of the changed visuals, and Kim Jun-Ho added, "She became prettier." Yang Se-hyung praised, "Miss Korea has come," and You Se Yoon was also surprised, saying, "Why did she become so pretty?"
Shin Bong-Sun laughed, saying "It's not easy to hear such words from comedians," but despite the guest support the program ultimately failed to achieve a ratings rebound.
