Kim Dae-myeung revealed the story behind taking the college entrance exam five times.

That day, Kim Dae-myeung revealed the behind-the-scenes story of taking the exam five times. He said, "I went to Sungkyunkwan University's Department of Acting. At that time, the schools everyone wanted to go to included Korea National University of Arts, Chung-Ang University and Dongguk University."
Speaking for the first time about it, Kim Dae-myeung recalled, "Before I got into that school — so during my fourth attempt — did I only apply to Seoul Institute of the Arts and Korea National University of Arts? I don't know what I was thinking, but I applied to Seoul Institute of the Arts and after the exam one professor said just one thing. 'I don't know whether I should accept you or reject you.' I thought I had passed. And then I thought, 'This is a pass. I think I'll get in,'" he recalled.
At the time he was first on the waiting list and, thinking usually three or four people drop out, Kim Dae-myeung was sure he would get into Seoul Institute of the Arts. He said, "Everyone congratulated me. Seoul Institute of the Arts student, Shin Dong-yeob's junior, Yu Jae-seok's junior. I received all the congratulations and the waiting list should have moved up, but that year women dropped out up to number six while not a single man dropped out. Miraculously, I ended up taking the exam five times," he said.
Jung Jae-hyung asked, "How did that feel?" and Kim Dae-myeung said, "I was just stunned. I thought maybe this school and I aren't destined. My family wasn't well-off; I worked part-time for everything, I went to academies, and when I suddenly thought about it, if I didn't go to a department of theater and film and stopped acting, I couldn't think what I should do. So I think I kept taking the exams," he said.
He said it was only after the fifth attempt that he realized how stubborn he had been about acting. Kim Dae-myeung said, "If it's Hamlet you have to do lines like 'To be or not to be, that is the question.' I really hated doing that. Not many people say that. But I realized during the fifth attempt. When I reached the fifth attempt, I started compromising with the world," he confessed.
But he said he didn't actually act the same way even during the fifth attempt. Jung Jae-hyung admired, "Your persistence is remarkable," and Kim Dae-myeung made people laugh by saying, "Around the fifth attempt the professors know your face. Later they asked, 'Where did you learn acting?'"
He added, "When I said I came from a certain theater troupe or learned from a certain teacher, they said you learned from a good person but wondered why. They had me try this and that, and then I got in."
