Actor Gu Hye-sun, who seemed far removed from smoking, has sparked attention by confessing that she used to smoke a pack a day. She said she deliberately learned to smoke for a role, drawing interest, and broadcaster Ralral, actress Choi Kang-hee, and comedian Cho Hye-lyeon also attracted attention by revealing past smoking experiences and quit-smoking stories.
Gu Hye-sun recounted that she learned to smoke herself for smoking scenes on MBN Kim Ju-ha's Day and Night, which aired on the 18th.
She said, "I did a smoking scene, but viewers said it looked awkward. So I thought, 'let's learn it properly.'" and added, "For about 10 months I intentionally smoked a pack a day." Hearing this, Moon Seyoon joked, "Even smokers would find that hard," prompting laughter.
Gu Hye-sun said she learned smoking from junior colleagues. She said, "Because of COVID-19 it was hard to meet in person, so I learned smoking over video calls," and, "They said you have to go into the smoking room alone, so I mustered the courage, and then a post appeared on the school community saying 'Gu Hye-sun is a heavy smoker.' Seeing that, I thought, 'the practice worked.'" which surprised everyone.
Although it was a thorough preparation for a role, her confession that she even risked being mistaken for a real smoker became a major topic immediately after the broadcast.
Earlier, Ralral also candidly admitted she had been a heavy smoker. Appearing on Pungja's YouTube channel in June, Ralral said she vaped nearly two packs a day until her pregnancy. When Pungja said, "You quit drinking and smoking after marrying," Ralral acknowledged, "I vaped about two packs a day until just before I got pregnant."
She admitted that alcohol is still not easy. She said candidly, "I originally didn't drink beer but liked soju. Because I had to get up early, I started having a can of beer in the morning, and as that became daily my weight increased a lot."
Cho Hye-lyeon also drew attention by revealing health changes after quitting smoking. On her YouTube content on the 8th she said, "I live no-alcohol, no-smoke," and added, "It's already been 10 years since I quit smoking."
Known for maintaining a healthy body through strict exercise and diet control, she was noted to have continued an even healthier lifestyle after quitting smoking.
Choi Kang-hee also revealed for the first time past smoking on the YouTube channel Lee Sung-mi's Can't Go. She said, "I started smoking after I turned 20. I wanted to mingle naturally with people on set, and I smoked to ease the awkwardness."
She continued, "I fall into bad things very quickly. At the time I thought I would never be able to quit smoking," and said, "So now I try to stay away from it entirely." She said she has been refraining from smoking and maintaining abstinence for six months.
