'Dongchimi' comedian Kim Ji-sun recalled memories of her maternal grandmother and mother.
On the 18th broadcast of MBN 'Dongchimi' (hereafter 'Dongchimi'), comedian Kim Ji-sun appeared. Kim Ji-sun said, "My mother seems to have entered the dementia stage about four years ago," adding, "At first she asks things like 'Are the kids doing well?' She would ask that same question six times every three minutes. I sensed something was wrong. So I took her to the hospital and she was diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment," she said. She is currently attending a care center to slow the progression of dementia.
Kim Ji-sun choked up as she said, "My maternal grandmother became alone at 24. She had three daughters, but the youngest daughter died after falling into an old-style toilet. After holding the youngest daughter's funeral, my grandmother ate. She said, 'If I am to feed my two remaining daughters, I must eat first.' "
She moved everyone when she said, "My mother used to say that. My mother lived frugally all her life. (After dementia) she doesn't even throw away toilet paper. So when I visit my mother I bring a large bag and take all the trash and used tissues home. She can't throw away a T-shirt that's 30 years old."
