Actor Seo Sumin gave a delicate and deeply felt emotional performance that made living rooms flood with tears, so convincing that it was hard to believe this was her first drama role in Manager Kim.
Seo Sumin, in Manager Kim, the SBS Friday-Saturday drama that continues its relentless ratings dominance, firmly made an impression on viewers. Playing Kim Min-ji, Manager Kim (So Jisub)'s daughter, Seo Sumin perfectly handled a complex emotional arc that moved between fear and confusion, relief and sorrow, raising the drama's immersion to its peak.
On episode 7, which aired at 9:50 p.m. on the 17th, Kim Min-ji (Seo Sumin) dramatically reunited with her father, Manager Kim, who came to rescue her, only to face another heartbreaking farewell in a whirlwind of events.
That day Min-ji was shocked by Manager Kim's unfamiliar appearance, a side of him completely different from the ordinary father she knew, radiating an overwhelming presence even in front of armed forces. Seo Sumin vividly expressed Min-ji's confused emotions—embarrassment, surprise and happiness—through trembling eyes and careful breathing, igniting the father-daughter chemistry with veteran actor So Jisub.
The heartbreaking sobbing after escaping the danger left viewers feeling heavyhearted. Seeing her battered father, Min-ji hid her own pain and sobbed, "I'm sorry. I'm sorry for making you worry." Seo Sumin's tears, pouring out both the relief after long fear and her remorse toward her father, completed the reunion between father and daughter with greater poignancy.
Facing the root of all evil, Joo Kang-chan (played by Joo Sang-Wook), she firmly told her father, who was enraged, "Turn yourself in. The man, and Hyeri too," showing a strong inner resolve that demanded responsibility over revenge.
The emotional high point of the episode was undoubtedly the birthday table scene at the end of the broadcast. Feeling guilty that her father would be arrested because of her, Min-ji instead comforted him with a brave side that made viewers choke up, saying, "Come back. I'll wait. Because he's my father." Especially notable was the restrained sobbing performance when, left alone after her father left, she finally broke down holding the birthday present and card she had been clutching.
Even though this was her first drama appearance, Seo Sumin built Min-ji's inner life with unexaggerated, plain expression and focus. She proved her growth potential by effectively serving as the emotional axis in the heartrending father-daughter narrative with So Jisub.
