Broadcaster Ro Hong-chul has revealed plans to try starting an accommodation business, drawing attention. Some have responded that his past experience with lodging problems during overseas travel may have led to this new challenge.
On the 16th, Ro Hong-chul posted on his social media, saying "I suddenly want to build an accommodation facility so much that I'm too excited to sleep," and shared a meeting video.
The video captured Ro Hong-chul discussing the concept of the lodging facility with associates. He reviewed presentation materials, offered various ideas, and even examined simulations of experiencing the space from a traveler's perspective, preparing for the project seriously.
The monitor displayed the phrase 'Predictable Eccentricity,' and Ro Hong-chul said, "I don't know if we can build it, but if we do it will probably be a very small capsule hotel or hostel with just a few rooms," adding, "I really like this kind of excitement."
He added hashtags such as "HongchulINN," "Hongchul Hotel" and "aging as planned," expressing anticipation for his new challenge.
Ro Hong-chul's accommodation idea is also tied to his travel experiences. Earlier, he revealed on his YouTube channel an absurd lodging experience he had while traveling in the U.K.
At the time he had booked a hotel costing more than 300,000 won, but was assigned a room with a broken air conditioner and his refund request was denied. He recounted that, at the staff's suggestion, he ultimately had to spend the night in an underground room with no windows, saying bitterly, "Including breakfast I paid 370,000 to 380,000 won and slept in an underground room."
However, he also joked with his characteristic positivity, saying, "I slept so deeply I didn't even need blackout curtains." As someone who has traveled widely and experienced many accommodations firsthand, fans have high expectations for his new venture.
Online reactions have included "If it's Ro Hong-chul, he'll probably create a truly unique lodging," "He's traveled the world so I'm looking forward to it," "If he applies his sensibility to accommodation it could be a huge hit," and "I'm more curious because it's a hotel made by someone who has traveled a lot."
