After surpassing a 22% viewership rating and claiming the No. 1 spot on Netflix globally, SBS Friday-Saturday drama Manager Kim once again brings viewers to tears.
In episode 7 of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama Manager Kim, airing at 9:50 p.m. on the 17th, amid a hair-trigger crisis rife with gunfire, Manager Kim (So Jisub) and his daughter Min-ji (Seo Sumin) finally embrace in a poignant "momentary hug" that is revealed.
Episode 6 of Manager Kim recorded a nationwide rating of 22.3% and a peak momentary rating of an astonishing 26.4% (Nielsen Korea), setting a new personal best each episode. In addition, it topped Netflix's non-English TV show chart globally for two consecutive weeks and entered the top 10 in 72 countries, enjoying success beyond Korea and around the world.
In the previous episode, Manager Kim, Seong Han-su (Choi Dae-hoon) and Park Jin-cheol (Yoon Kyung-ho) carried out a life-risking rescue operation to free Min-ji, who was trapped in the special missions bureau, and when they finally faced the daughter, Manager Kim's tearful paternal plea "Min-ji. Dad's here. Let's go home now" left viewers deeply moved.
In the released stills and preview, the three dads and Min-ji's breathless escape operation, completely surrounded by the suppression team, raises the tension. In extreme terror, Min-ji clings to Manager Kim's back and cries, while Manager Kim, suppressing his swelling emotions, never lowers his guard and holds his daughter tightly, a sight that makes viewers' hearts ache.
Here, Seong Han-su and Park Jin-cheol firmly surround the two and provide an impregnable shield. The three dads' formed "triangular defense" on a battlefield where bullets could come from anywhere at any moment keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.
According to production officials, the actors showed higher concentration than ever during this shoot, which required both high-level gunfight action and deep emotional lines at the same time. In particular, So Jisub, Choi Dae-hoon, Yoon Kyung-ho and Seo Sumin matched tight rhythms from rehearsals and showed consideration for one another.
The production team said, "In episode 7, Manager Kim's desperate paternal love to protect his daughter and the passionate loyalty of the colleagues who stand by him will explode," and added, "Please check the broadcast to see whether the three dads can safely take Min-ji's hand and return home."
