Korea's representative "military content" ENA "New Recruit" returns with a fourth story that is even more tense and powerful.
ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama 'New Recruit 4: Sabotage', which confirmed its premiere for Aug. 24 at 10 p.m. (directed by Min Jin-gi and Jo Je-wook, written by Yoon Ki-young and Kim Dan), released photos of a warm script reading featuring the full-strength cast including Kim Min-ho, Kim Dong-jun, Oh Dae-Hwan, Lee Hyun-gyun, Lee Won-jung, Nam Tae-woo and Kim Yo-han as it marked its full-fledged comeback.
The "New Recruit" series, based on the mega-hit animation of the same name, is a hyperrealism military comedy that depicts what happens when a "military spoon" new recruit joins a unique military space filled with all kinds of characters. It drew syndrome-level popularity in previous seasons with its 100% realistic verification and "bone-hitting" humor.
The returning New Recruit 4: Sabotage depicts the latter half of the dynamic barracks life of corporal Park Min-seok (played by Kim Min-ho), who has risen in rank and gained some experience. With the return of First Sergeant Choi Il-gu (played by Nam Tae-woo), who was commissioned as a professional noncommissioned officer, and the arrival of a mysterious new recruit ace and a new battalion commander who will shake up the balance, the Myth unit is expected to plunge into a storm once again.
From the script reading, the actors' crisp mouth action and comradeship exploded. Kim Min-ho, playing corporal Park Min-seok, a "military spoon" who slyly edges into the senior line, displayed an uncompromisingly pitiful yet lovable bungling charm. Dreaming of a peaceful final service while being treated as a senior, Min-seok meets unexpected troublemakers and collapses in panic, and his psychology was depicted vividly, turning the venue into a sea of laughter.
Kim Dong-jun, who perfectly adapted from a national actor to the ace "Gunstar" role of Jeon Se-gye, added warmth by showing the model of a courteous and reliable soldier, while Oh Dae-Hwan, as company commander Jo Baek-ho, the "human vitamin" who embraces the second company with love, firmly anchored the center with his heavy yet witty acting.
The newly recruited new faces also raised expectations. Lee Hyun-gyun plays elite battalion commander Byun Hyuk-jin, who will turn the unit upside down shouting for a "advanced barracks," injecting tense energy with high synchronicity. Lee Won-jung, as the mysterious ace new recruit Kim Hyun-wook, signaled a new axis of conflict with a gaze that created an eerie discord and gripping acting.
Nam Tae-woo, who as a last-term soldier was forcibly(?) demoted to sergeant, carried the bittersweet position caught between officers and enlisted men with realistic, close-to-life comic acting, and Kim Yo-han, as private Moon Bit-na-ri, the company's certified washed-up private, played the comic relief role with an annoyingly lovable bungling charm that cannot be hated.
The production team said, "A huge 'sabotage' that will shatter Park Min-seok's peace as a corporal is about to begin," and added, "Please look forward to the unpredictable incidents that shake the order of the barracks and the tightened, delightful chemistry of the 'New Recruits.'" It will also be available on Jini TV and TVING.
