Singer Kwon Jin Ah explained why she returned not with ballads but with a "rock sound."
Kwon Jin Ah held a comeback showcase at 3 p.m. on the 15th at Tongyang Life Insurance Hall in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of her third EP "Save Me (SAVE ME)."
That day Kwon Jin Ah unveiled the live stage for the title track of the new release, "Monster (MONSTER)," for the first time. After the performance Kwon Jin Ah said, "Until just before going on stage I was very nervous, but this moment is something I am so grateful for. It's the first time since my debut that I'm doing a media showcase. I think I was able to perform as if I were really putting on a concert."
Through this new release Kwon Jin Ah challenged herself with a rock sound rather than ballads, boldly breaking the image of being an "emotional balladeer."
With her third EP "Save Me," Kwon Jin Ah attempts a bold musical leap. She challenges herself for the first time in her career with an "all-rock basis." Across the album she weaves themes of hurt and self-loathing into the rough waves of rock sound.
Kwon Jin Ah said, "In the past I used rock sound a little when telling deep stories in one or two tracks on my albums," and explained the reason for her daring transformation: "This time I wanted to fill the record with full band sound and speak about deep inner stories. It started from a desire to offer comfort and empathy to people my age."
She added, "When I think about performing, there may be no genre that can heat up the atmosphere like rock. In truth, what felt like a challenge was the act of bringing out what is inside me. It's a part of me."
She added, "I felt it wouldn't be hard to listen to because it's a rock sound that can be shown within the pop character I have."
Kwon Jin Ah's third EP "Save Me" will be released today (the 15th) at 6 p.m.
