Film director Jang Hang-jun, as the host of "Seollok," laughed as he proclaimed himself the "Lee Kyung-kyu of the film world."
On the morning of the 14th, the press conference for the new variety show Time Tracker Sherlock (abbreviated Seollok) on K-STAR, SBS Plus, Comedy TV, The Life, and GTV was streamed online. Attending were the three MCs — director Jang Hang-jun, actor Bong Tae Gyu, and broadcaster Shin Ah-young — as well as panelist Sun Kim, who talked about Seollok.
In particular, the event drew attention as the press conference for the new variety show whose main MC is director Jang Hang-jun. Earlier this year, director Jang Hang-jun's new film The King's Warden drew about 16.91 million viewers, setting a box office milestone that put its cumulative audience near 17 million.
So what does it mean for director Jang Hang-jun to appear on Seollok not as a filmmaker but as the main MC? Director Jang Hang-jun said he feels a certain responsibility, noting, "I carefully read the script, I come prepared, and I end up preparing thoroughly."
Bong Tae Gyu said, "The director cares deeply for the staff and the cast, so if even a second of recording is delayed, it becomes a big problem. Orders are shouted. We don't want everyone to suffer." In response, director Jang Hang-jun chimed in, "I'm the Lee Kyung-kyu of the film world. We have to finish quickly," adding to the laughter.
Seollok presents the same events with entirely different interpretations. It reexamines the fissures hidden in familiar history. From official records to the perspectives of unofficial histories and beyond, the historical variety show tracks the blank spaces in the record by changing the viewpoint more deeply, more boldly and more strangely to ask whether there truly was a "right answer" to the history we believed we knew. It premieres today (the 14th) at 10:30 p.m.
