Comedian Shin Ki-ruu revealed a 'funny-sad' unrequited love anecdote about junior comedian Yang Bae-cha that sent the audience into fits of laughter.
On the 13th, the KBS2 variety show Malja Show featured Shin Ki-ruu, a 21-year veteran comedian who has maintained a 20-year friendship with Kim Young Hee, and she displayed frank banter.
That day Shin Ki-ruu introduced herself as "dating Go Soo" and confidently said, "I've dated 60 times." When Kim Young Hee shot back, "Isn't that an illusion?" Shin Ki-ruu said, "Love is love even if you do it alone. By my standard I count it as dating, so it comes out to 60 times," revealing a unique philosophy of love that drew laughter.
Kim Young Hee joked, "That sister didn't date 60 times; she ate 60 meals," and Shin Ki-ruu refused to budge from her logic, saying, "If someone asks to eat, I eat; if they call in the middle of the night, I pick up—how can you not take that as something?"
She went on to share the most memorable unrequited love. Shin Ki-ruu said, "I've never blamed someone for not accepting my confession. I liked them, but it wasn't their obligation," and added, "There was something I heard for the first time in my life." She said, "I cared for a junior I liked a lot. I helped them materially a lot, but they said, 'Senior, everything is fine but I won't accept your heart.'" She added, "They didn't accept the heart but they accepted the things," making the studio erupt in laughter.
She then revealed the junior's real name, saying the junior was comedian Yang Bae-cha, and said, "I count it as the most tender love in my dating history." Shin Ki-ruu confessed, "I confessed to Yang Bae-cha eight times, but was rejected every time." She added, "Not long ago I got a message saying, 'If I could go back to that time I might have liked you. There's no one who treated me as well as you did,'" which surprised everyone.
But the sentiment didn't last long. Shin Ki-ruu revealed, "At the end he asked me to post promotion for his perilla oil business on social media," which provoked laughter.
She also shared a hospital-visit anecdote. She said, "The day after I confessed he was hospitalized, so I went to the hospital with great concern, but I was given only porridge," and added, "When I said I'd even help with nursing, he moved the hospital room itself," which added to the laughter. Shin Ki-ruu said, "After that incident I had something like a panic disorder for about three days," yet wrapped up cheerfully, saying, "Still, it was a youthful memory of a time when we were once fresh."
