Singer Koo Jun-yeob is directly stepping into the dispute over the late Seoheewon's estate distribution.
On the 12th (local time), according to Taiwanese media Sanlip News Network, Koo Jun-yeob has not officially waived the legal rights he can assert regarding the late Seoheewon's estate, and both parties are expected to enter mediation procedures through their lawyers next week.
Since Seoheewon's death, attention has continued to focus on the handling of the estate and the actions of the surviving family members, and various rumors have proliferated. There were reports that Koo Jun-yeob had given up inheritance of the luxury Taipei residence where he had lived with the deceased during her lifetime, but subsequent allegations claimed that he did not voluntarily give it up and that, under coordination by Seoheewon's family, he left the original residence and found a separate home to live in; however, this has not been verified.
Earlier, regarding questions about the whereabouts of Seoheewon's estate, which is reported to be about 120 billion won, he said, "All the assets were accumulated with blood and sweat by Seohee while alive to protect the family she loved, so I intend to give all rights regarding me to my mother-in-law," and added, in particular, "I plan to take legal measures through lawyers to protect the children's rights until they become adults so that bad people cannot touch them."
However, the fact that mediation procedures appear to be starting suggests that Koo Jun-yeob has not yet completed the formal inheritance renunciation process. In this regard, Koo Jun-yeob's lawyer is reported to have not issued any statement yet.
According to reports, both parties' lawyers will attend the mediation next week as representatives, and discussions are expected to include clarifying the method of estate distribution. In particular, there is strong public interest because it also relates to the two minor children between Seoheewon and her ex-husband Wang Xiaofei inheriting two-thirds of the estate.
Seoheewon's ex-husband Wang Xiaofei recently issued a statement regarding the late's estate, saying that the two minor children are inheriting two-thirds of the estate by law and that a trust-only account has been opened to manage it. He added that he respects Koo Jun-yeob's right to the one-third of the estate he can legally inherit and that he will allow him to plan and dispose of it on his own.
