Veteran actor Shin Goo spoke calmly about his longing for his wife, who passed away last year, delivering a poignant resonance.
On the 13th, the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro Shin Dong-yeob' released an episode featuring actor Shin Goo, Jo Dal-hwan and Lee Sang-yoon, where they had candid conversations.
On that day Lee Sang-yoon said, "After the teacher sent his wife off last year and has been alone, the house looked very lonely," he cautiously began.
He added, "We talked about tidying up the house a little and changing the atmosphere," and "Jo Dal-hwan suggested, 'Let's make a room where you can come anytime to drink and sleep,'" which he said warmed hearts.
When Shin Dong-yeob asked, "You must have had a hard time after sending off the wife you were together with for so long," Shin Goo opened up his true feelings calmly.He said, "I never thought I would be alone. One day it suddenly happened," and "But I couldn't follow her to die, I had to eat and breathe to live, so I endured. Then I found I could endure," he said.
Above all, traces of his wife still remained throughout daily life. Shin Goo confessed, "Even now it doesn't feel like she passed away. I live thinking she just went out somewhere," and "When I enter the house I still say, 'I'm home,' as I go in," delivering a lump-in-the-throat feeling. Shin Goo experienced the pain of separating from his wife, the late Ha Jung-sook, in July last year. Then in November of the same year, he faced another parting when his close colleague of decades in the theater world, the late Lee Soon-jae, also passed away.
Nevertheless, Shin Goo did not remain in sorrow. Despite health issues and successive losses, he kept his promise to the stage and returned to perform in the play The Merchant of Venice. He had previously revealed that he wears a pacemaker due to heart failure, but his passion for acting remained unchanged.
Longtime colleague Park Geun-hyung also appears in The Merchant of Venice. The two, who earlier received great love for Waiting for Godot, will once again take the stage together to meet audiences. Shin Goo, who has watched family and colleagues he spent many years with leave one after another, still lives as an actor on stage and quietly keeps his place.
