Coupang Play series 'The affair right now isn't the problem' released a teaser trailer that piques strong curiosity by showing two families that seemed perfect being sucked into an uncontrollable incident.
'The affair right now isn't the problem' (hereafter 'The affair right now') is a black comedy of successive collisions in which a popular influencer couple who sold a happy family and a neighbor doctor couple embroiled in a mudslinging divorce suit become entangled in an unbearable secret that makes even an affair seem trivial.
The released trailer begins with self-made popular influencer 'Gyeong-hee' (Kim Hye-soo), her husband 'Jae-hong' (Kim Ji-hun), and daughter Ye-ji moving into a luxury residential area they've dreamed of. With a smile as if she owns the world, Gyeong-hee's line, "I really think I've almost achieved everything," seems to foreshadow the happiness that will unfold before them.
But after being invited to the home of the dermatologist 'Soo-jeong' (Cho Yeojeong) who lives next door, the dynamics between the two families begin to subtly misalign. Though she appears elegant and aloof, Soo-jeong's strange conversation—seemingly friendly yet irritating—directed at Gyeong-hee, along with her flirtatious ex-husband 'Bo-seong' (Kim Jae-chul) and the ongoing mudslinging divorce, opens the curtain on suffocating tension.
After Gyeong-hee sees tabloid rumors of actor 'Jae-hong's affair and follows her husband, the atmosphere takes a sudden turn when she witnesses a shocking scene of Jae-hong in an abandoned demolition village house. Over Gyeong-hee's despairing voice, "Since that day my life has fallen apart," the chilling image of Soo-jeong eavesdropping on something and the ominous line, "We should help each other. We're neighbors, after all," alternate, foreshadowing an unpredictable turn of events.
Especially the closing line of the trailer by Gyeong-hee, "I wish it had just been an affair," makes viewers curious about the true nature of the enormous incident that makes even an affair seem trivial.
Director Lee Chang-hee, known for 'Hell is other people' and 'The murderer is clueless,' raises expectations with his stylish direction. He is expected to not only depict the events that run amok in unexpected directions with his characteristic brisk pacing but also to intensify immersion by densely building the characters' sharp psychologies. The production adds credibility with producer Kim Ji-yeon, who sparked a global phenomenon through the Squid Game Season series, and Firstborn Studio of director Hwang Dong-hyuk.
Even with just the teaser trailer, Coupang Play series 'The affair right now' that promises a shocking narrative will be released on July 31 (Fri) at 8 p.m. on Coupang Play.
Meanwhile, Kim Hye-soo is scheduled this year to release 'The affair right now' and later this year 'Second signal,' and Cho Yeojeong will also present the Netflix film 'Possible Love'.
