"Dream To You" Hwang Inyoup and Lee Hye-ri face each other again after 15 years, signaling the start of a first-love romance.
The ENA new Monday-Tuesday drama "Dream To You" (directed by Yoo Seon-dong, written by Jeong Eun-bi), which premiered on the 13th, depicted the reunion of genius film director Woo Su-bin (played by Hwang Inyoup), who returned after achieving his dream, and livelihood-driven reporter Joo I-jae (played by Lee Hye-ri), who has lived having forgotten her dream.
In that episode, the contrasting presents of Woo Su-bin, who won both the best new director award and the best film award with his first feature film "Wandering," and reporter Joo I-jae, who travels the country, were highlighted. Unlike Woo Su-bin, who achieved dazzling success, Joo I-jae evoked sympathy as she lived crushed by reality, even taking on her mother's shop deposit problem.
Above all, the revelation of the two people's connection from 15 years ago added to the excitement. The person who planted the dream of becoming a film director in 18-year-old Woo Su-bin, who was wandering without a dream, was Joo I-jae. Pushed toward a career in medicine, Woo Su-bin began to dream of becoming a film director as he watched Joo I-jae, who always talked about her dream with shining eyes; the two grew into each other's dream and first love.
But after a long time had passed, the mood between the two who met again was the exact opposite. Woo Su-bin could not hide his gladness, but Joo I-jae drew a cold line as she felt her own reality become even more shabby in front of his successful appearance. Asked whether she had a boyfriend, she even lied, saying, "I have a husband and children," trying to keep her distance.
He noticed the lie and said, "So you don't. Do you have time?" and moved straight forward, then handed over the long-awaited scenario they had worked on together, "Gyeongseong love song," suggesting, "I want to make this into a film. There's no ending. Do it with me," once again knocking on Joo I-jae's heart.
But Joo I-jae's wound was still deep. Leaving after spilling coffee on the scenario, she recalled the memory of searching for Woo Su-bin 15 years ago in a rain-drenched street. The times she visited his house every day but ultimately failed to meet him were recalled, increasing curiosity about what story lay between the two.
Unable to hold back her emotions, Joo I-jae said through tears, "You can't come with such an indifferent face. You should have just remained a first love. Not regret. Woo Su-bin, you are my regret. Go back to that day, too. See how I feel," and Woo Su-bin also left a poignant aftertaste as he stood in the rain without saying a word.
Another youth romance also captured attention. Supporting actor Shim Yu-geon (played by Baek Seong-cheol) formed a connection with top star Oh Ha-na (played by Lee Yuleum) while working part-time on a filming set, and Oh Ha-na recognized his potential, hinting at the start of a new relationship. The meeting of two people living in different realities also emerged as another viewing point.
From the first broadcast, "Dream To You" harmoniously captured the thrill unique to first love, realistic regret and the growing pains of youth, forming a rapport with viewers. Hwang Inyoup showed his presence by alternating between Woo Su-bin's straight-forward charm as he approached his first love without hesitation and delicate emotional acting, and Lee Hye-ri led the drama's center by densely expressing Joo I-jae's complicated emotions worn down by reality.
