It has been revealed that former American child star Daveigh Chase left an inheritance worth about $4 billion, drawing attention.
On the 13th (local time) People obtained and reported on estate inheritance documents related to Daveigh Chase (Daveigh Chase, Daveigh Elizabeth).
According to reports, after her death last month Daveigh Chase left an estate worth about $400,000 (Hanwha about 600 million won), and it was reported that she did not own real estate. Also, because Daveigh Chase died without leaving a will, her mother, Kathy Chase, has filed a petition with the court to be appointed estate administrator.
Kathy Chase filed this petition on the 8th with the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The petition requests that the court, under California probate law, grant Kathy Chase the authority to administer her daughter's estate and approve claims of $400,000. The inheritance hearing is scheduled to be held at the County Superior Court on Aug. 12.
Earlier, Daveigh Chase died on June 16 at the age of 35. According to the coroner's report, the cause of death was listed as acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS), and chronic poly-substance abuse was cited as a major contributing factor to her deteriorating health. In particular, it was revealed to be shocking that in recent months Chase had been living homeless in the notorious Skid Row in downtown Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, court documents show that at the time of her death Daveigh Chase was homeless, and her last known residence was listed as Chatsworth, California. It also stated that she had never been married nor had children, and that her mother Kathy Chase and father John Schwalier remain as survivors. In addition, a separate document was spotted in which Kathy Chase acknowledged by signature the responsibilities she would assume if appointed estate administrator. Those responsibilities included protecting estate assets, notifying creditors, maintaining financial records, and filing an inventory of the estate with the court.
Born in 1990, Daveigh Chase first became known after voicing the protagonist Chihiro (Ogino Chihiro) in the English dub of Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away in 2001, and then voicing the protagonist Lilo in Disney's 2002 mega-hit Lilo & Stitch.
Also in 2002, she gave a chilling performance as the vengeful spirit Samara Morgan, who crawls out of a TV screen, in the horror film The Ring, which was loved worldwide. For that performance she won the best villain award at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards and rose to prominence as Hollywood's top child star. She later built a solid filmography by appearing in many notable works such as the film Donnie Darko and the drama ER, and by appearing for five seasons as Rhonda Volmer in HBO's popular series Big Love.
However, after the 2016 film American Romance she stopped acting and disappeared from public view, and at the end of 2025 footage surfaced showing the deceased wandering the streets emaciated to the bone.
In this regard, mother Kathy told the Daily Mail in an interview that her daughter's drug addiction began after being prescribed painkillers following a motorcycle accident in 2016. She also denied reports of family discord and said she had tried many times to help her daughter but could not force her into treatment.
