Singer and actress Selena Gomez's mother is embroiled in controversy over a bizarre joke about her daughters.
On the 13th (local time), Page Six reported that Selena Gomez's mother, Mandy Teefey, is trying to contain the social media controversy she herself started. The controversy erupted because many fans interpreted Teefey's social media post as targeting Selena Gomez and her half sister Gracie.
Earlier, Mandy Teefey shared a selfie of her two daughters on social media and wrote, "my greatest achievement. Whether they love me or not. The kids are truly the best. I hope someday they realize how wonderful I am and love me as much as I love them."
She continued, "I'm just a mom. A mom who never gives up even if her kids throw me in the trash. People will say, 'Mom, don't do that.' Maybe they're right. Time will tell. But no matter what happens, I'm always on your side," she wrote.
Fans responded by suggesting Teefey's post was aimed at Selena and Gracie. One online user pointed out, "If you have issues with your daughters, you shouldn't post something like this on social media. People will ignore context and keep attacking Selena. I don't know what happened, but don't make drama and talk to your daughter directly."
As fans' criticism continued, Teefey attempted to calm things down by posting again, "this is just an unfunny joke moms commonly make. Calm down."
Selena Gomez is an American singer-songwriter and actress who was discovered by the Disney Channel. She also launched a cosmetics business in 2020 and reinvented herself as a businesswoman. Selena Gomez is married to music producer Benny Blanco.
