'The first celebrity to wear an electronic anklet' despite the ignominy, singer Go Young-wook is rampaging without any sign of self-reflection. He has even targeted well-known broadcasters Shin Dong-yeob and Yu Jae-seok in succession, drawing public ire.
On the 11th Go Young-wook posted on his personal SNS, "I was watching Channel A weekend news and flipping channels when I was quite surprised to see 'Immortal Songs' is still on," and he captured and shared a broadcast scene of the KBS 2TV entertainment program 'Immortal Songs'.
He then mocked the 'Immortal Songs' MC Shin Do-yeob, saying, "Should I call him an artisan.. He seems to have incredible stamina, drinking and doing broadcasts. Well, when you watch Animal Farm his eyes always look glazed…" drawing attention with his sarcasm.
He was unabashed the next day as well. On the 12th he again posted on his personal SNS. This time it was 'national MC' Yu Jae-seok. Along with a captured photo of Yu Jae-seok from the MBC entertainment program Hangout With Yoo, he sneeringly said, "Does he like broadcasting that much.." He even added, "How much richer does he have to become to be satisfied.. his greed has no end."
On the same day he left another SNS post saying, "I wanted to make people laugh and just live happily. It seems hard to find a job in Korea. I think I once read somewhere that there is a shortage of Japanese male AV actors. If it is legally possible," he wrote. Go Young-wook, who was expelled from the entertainment industry due to his conviction for sexually assaulting minors, is provoking public outrage by targeting popular broadcasters such as Shin Dong-yeob and Yu Jae-seok in succession.
Go Young-wook debuted in 1994 as a member of the mixed group Roolla. After Roolla disbanded, he appeared with his pet dogs on SBS's TV Animal Farm and was active on various entertainment programs. However, beginning in 2010 he was involved in three incidents of sexually assaulting minors, sparking controversy.
The first revelation of Go Young-wook's sexual assault of a minor came in 2012, when he allegedly gave alcohol to a high school girl who aspired to be a model and raped her; when she filed a complaint he claimed the sexual relations were consensual and was booked without detention. During the investigation it later emerged that two years earlier in 2010 he had gotten a 14-year-old middle school girl extremely drunk and raped her, then claimed it was consensual, adding to the shock.
He was even arrested at the end of 2012 for molesting another middle school girl while he was still under investigation without detention. Ultimately Go Young-wook's sentence was confirmed by the Supreme Court in 2013 to 2 years and 6 months in prison, and he was sentenced to three years of electronic monitoring device (electronic anklet) attachment and five years of public notification and reporting of personal information. He was released after serving his sentence in July 2015.
Go Young-wook then had his electronic anklet removed in 2018, and his personal information disclosure period ended in July 2020, after which he opened personal SNS accounts and repeatedly expressed his desire to return to the entertainment industry and resume broadcasting activities. In August 2024 he even launched a personal YouTube channel. However, that channel was closed by YouTube.
Since then Go Young-wook has drawn criticism by raising issues of fairness on SNS. He remains fiercely criticized as "the first celebrity to wear an electronic anklet." Mentioning Shin Dong-yeob and Yu Jae-seok out of the blue and continuing to rail rather than reflect has further provoked public outrage. <
